What are the responsibilities and job description for the Japanese Maple Nursery Team Member position at Garden Center Plants LLC?
Overview
We are starting a retail mail order component to our Japanese maple business. We have been wholesale only for years, but recently have been purchased by a popular mail order nursery. We are looking for someone who can come in and grow in this role as this component of our business grows. If you don't know anything about us, we have one of the largest collections of types of Japanese maples in the USA and we are also known for our large conifer assortment. As we are not typically open to the public, this job is not primarily customer facing and you would be working with a small team to ship trees each day.
Duties
- Prepare, package, and label orders accurately for shipment
- Load and unload shipments efficiently, ensuring proper handling and safety protocols are followed
- Manage inventory using shopify and PlantX inventory management software to track stock levels and update records
- Conduct stock replenishment in nursery areas, ensuring plants and related products are properly stocked and maintained
- Assist with order picking and packing to meet delivery deadlines while maintaining quality standards
- Support nursery operations by caring for plants, organizing supplies, and maintaining a clean workspace
- Any task or job around the nursery
Skills
- Proficiency with details
- Strong knowledge of inventory management, shipping logistics, order fulfillment, and warehouse distribution processes
- Basic math skills for counting stock, measuring quantities, and verifying shipments accurately
- Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively with team members
- Love of plants and gardening
- Ability to get along with team members
- Critical thinking is a plus as we learn and grow this retail mail order part of our buisness.
- Must be able to lift 70 lbs, although most trees and shipping boxes are much lighter than that.
