POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Job Summary:
In this role, you will be responsible for the intake, inventory, storage, and release of detainee personal property within an immigration processing and custodial facility. You will complete this in accordance with established policies and procedures. You will ensure all property is properly documented, secured, and accounted for throughout the detainee’s time in custody. This position plays a critical role in maintaining chain of custody, preventing loss or damage, and ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of maintaining accurate records in a secure environment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Receive, inventory, and document detainee personal property upon intake.
- Ensure proper labeling, packaging, and secure storage of all property items.
- Maintain accurate property logs, records, and chain-of-custody documentation.
- Issue receipts and maintain documentation for all property transactions.
- Process property returns and releases upon detainee transfer or discharge.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of stored property to ensure accountability and compliance.
- Identify and report discrepancies, lost items, or damaged property in accordance with policy.
- Coordinate with custody staff, intake/release personnel, and supervisors regarding property handling.
- Ensure compliance with all facility policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and security of the property storage area.
- Safeguard sensitive and valuable items, including money, identification, and legal materials.
- Maintain confidentiality of detainee information and property records.
Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, and Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in property management, inventory control, or a high-volume administrative role within a law enforcement or correctional/detention facility.
- Must possess strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to accurately document and track inventory using logs or electronic systems.
- Ability to navigate Microsoft Office products, specifically Outlook email, Word, and Excel.
- Must possess sound judgment and perform job duties with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
- If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
- Must consent to fingerprinting.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
- Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
- Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. During visits to
areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands listed below, though not fully inclusive, are that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The employee is frequently required to move about inside the facility to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
