Starting Pay: $17.00 per hour
Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
The Galveston County Food Bank is seeking a dependable, organized, and service-oriented Volunteer Coordinator. Applicants must be able to work the posted Tuesday-through-Saturday schedule consistently; these hours are firm.
Reporting to the Development Director and working closely with other members of management, the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for maintaining an exemplary volunteer program. The goal of this position is to provide a reliable supplemental workforce of volunteers that helps the Galveston County Food Bank fulfill its mission.
Essential Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support volunteers.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records.
- Communicate schedules, expectations, and assignments clearly to volunteers and staff.
- Help create a positive, organized, and welcoming volunteer experience.
- Make decisions and solve problems in real time.
- Work directly with pantry facilitator, development team and government agencies as needed.
- Take quality photographs and assist with marketing activities.
- Support management and departmental work teams.
- Assist in the pantry and at the front desk as needed.
- Perform other duties related to the position and the organization’s mission.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least two years of experience in volunteer coordination or a nonprofit setting.
- At least two years of customer service experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational, communication, and scheduling skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to follow a firm work schedule.
- Ability to make sound decisions and resolve problems in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Experience working with government agencies.
- Ability to take clear, high-quality photographs and assist with marketing efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Manual and or Electric pallet jack.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to frequently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment that is not climate controlled.
- Willingness and ability to assist with warehouse, pantry, and front-desk duties.
