About the role

The Metal Supervisor is a working supervisor responsible for leading the daily performance of the Kaufman metal operation while actively performing fabrication work alongside the team. This role directs employees, assigns work, trains operators, monitors safety and quality, and keeps production moving to meet customer commitments. The Metal Supervisor must combine strong people leadership with the technical ability to set up and operate fabrication equipment, read prints, inspect parts, troubleshoot problems, and produce quality work.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily metal production while working alongside the team to achieve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost expectations.


• Assign employees to jobs and equipment and communicate priorities, instructions, schedule changes, safety concerns, and quality requirements.


• Train and coach employees on equipment operation, setup, print interpretation, inspection methods, safe work practices, and standard processes.


• Set clear expectations, recognize strong performance, address attendance or performance concerns promptly, and involve the General Manager when further action is needed.


• Review work orders, prints, job travelers, bills of material, and production schedules before work begins and resolve unclear or missing information rather than making assumptions.


• Set up, operate, and adjust press brakes, roll formers, shears, punches, saws, laser equipment, and related machinery while performing fabrication work alongside the team.


• Complete first piece, in process, and final inspections and stop, contain, and document nonconforming work before it moves forward.


• Monitor labor, material flow, equipment availability, and constraints throughout the shift and ensure production, scrap, and quality records are completed accurately.


• Support preventive maintenance, tooling care, changeovers, and basic troubleshooting and escalate equipment concerns before they create safety, quality, or delivery failures.


• Maintain safe and organized work areas and ensure guards, procedures, personal protective equipment, and material handling practices are followed.


• Coordinate with the General Manager and support departments to resolve problems and lead improvements that reduce setup time, scrap, rework, and downtime.

What Success Looks Like

• Employees work safely, follow standard processes, and understand the priorities and expectations for each shift.


• Production schedules and customer commitments are met through effective labor planning, direct production support, and timely problem solving.


• Parts meet print and customer requirements, quality checks are documented, and nonconforming material is contained before shipment.


• The team is trained across equipment and processes and employees receive consistent coaching, feedback, and accountability.


• Work orders and production, scrap, labor, and quality records are accurate and completed on time.


• Equipment, tooling, material, and work areas remain organized, and recurring safety, quality, and productivity issues are corrected at the source.

Required Qualifications

• At least three years of metal fabrication or manufacturing experience, including machine operation and setup.


• Previous lead or supervisory experience assigning work, training employees, and monitoring daily performance.


• Experience operating fabrication equipment such as press brakes, roll formers, shears, punches, saws, or plasma cutting equipment.


• Ability to read prints and work orders, use precision measuring tools, and inspect work against dimensional and workmanship requirements.


• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience completing changeovers, making machine adjustments, and performing basic troubleshooting. Welding experience is preferred.


• Strong communication, organization, problem solving, and people leadership skills.


• Forklift experience and the ability to safely move and stage metal materials.


• High school diploma or equivalent. Relevant technical training is preferred.

Schedule Benefits and Work Environment

This is a full time, in person day shift position Monday through Friday, with extended hours and Saturday work as needed.
