Human Resources Generalist
Hospitality Industry | East Bay, CA | Full-Time | Onsite
Our client, a well-established and highly respected hospitality organization with approximately 100 employees across two East Bay locations, is seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist to join its leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, people-focused environment where no two days are the same.
This is a fully onsite position based primarily at the Oakland location, with the expectation of traveling to the organization's second location in Solano County approximately once per week.
Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for supporting all aspects of human resources, serving as a trusted resource for managers and employees while ensuring compliance with employment laws and company policies. This role requires someone who is hands-on, proactive, approachable, and comfortable balancing employee relations, compliance, recruiting, and day-to-day HR operations.
Essential Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary HR resource for approximately 100 employees across two locations.
- Partner with managers on employee relations matters, coaching, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
- Conduct workplace investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Stay current on California labor laws and proactively recommend policy and procedural updates.
- Maintain and update HR policies, and related documentation.
- Coordinate onboarding, and offboarding.
- Lead new hire orientation and onboarding activities.
- Oversee employee timekeeping and attendance processes while partnering with payroll to ensure accurate reporting (this position does not process payroll).
- Monitor meal and rest break compliance, overtime, leave administration, and wage and hour requirements.
- Maintain employee personnel files and HRIS records.
- Administer leave of absence requests, including FMLA, CFRA, ADA accommodations, and workers' compensation coordination.
- Assist with benefits administration, employee communications, and annual open enrollment.
- Support employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and company events.
- Develop and deliver HR training for managers and employees as needed.
- Prepare HR reports and maintain compliance records.
- Participate in special projects and continuous process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- 7 years of progressive Human Resources Generalist experience.
- Strong knowledge of California employment law and HR best practices.
- Experience handling employee relations issues and workplace investigations.
- Experience supporting onboarding initiatives.
- Familiarity with HRIS and timekeeping systems.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
Preferred Experience
- Hospitality, restaurant, retail, or other multi-location service industry experience.
- Experience supporting hourly workforces.
- Bilingual Spanish is a plus but not required.
