Our client, an innovative and growing organization with both for-profit and nonprofit operations, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller to join their exceptional accounting team. This position will serve as a key member of the accounting department, acting as the bridge between senior accounting staff and executive leadership. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader with strong technical accounting expertise, multi-entity experience, and the ability to independently solve problems and improve processes.

What You'll Do
• Own and manage intercompany accounting activities, including reconciliations with the company's international headquarters
• Prepare, review, and analyze balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies
• Lead month-end and year-end close activities for multiple entities
• Prepare and review journal entries and general ledger activity
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
• Assist with annual audits and coordinate audit requests
• Support financial reporting and analysis across multiple business entities
• Prepare and file sales tax returns
• Assist with grant budgeting, grant accounting, and tracking expenditures against grant funding
• Collaborate with leadership on process improvements and accounting initiatives
• Identify accounting issues and independently develop practical solutions
• Assist with special projects, reporting requests, and ad hoc financial analysis
What We're Looking For
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• Approximately 10-20 years of progressive accounting experience
• Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar accounting leadership role within a small to mid-sized organization
• Strong for-profit accounting experience required
• Multi-entity accounting experience required
• Extensive experience with intercompany accounting and reconciliations
• Deep understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience with month-end close, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliations
• Proven ability to work both strategically and hands-on
• Strong problem-solving abilities, sound judgment, and common sense approach to business challenges
• Experience with grant accounting is a plus
• Experience working with international organizations is a plus
