About The Role

As a Scale Clerk, you’ll play an accuracy-critical role in daily plant operations—responsible for controlling, recording, and communicating the flow of materials in and out of our asphalt plants. This position directly impacts billing accuracy, production tracking, and customer satisfaction.

This is a seasonal, hourly role typically running from April through late November. The role will be ~75% based in Joliet, IL and ~25% based in Thornton, IL, so reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required.

Seasonal role (mid March – early December; guaranteed 40 weeks) with a daily start between 5:00–7:30am, primarily early mornings - early afternoons, with significant overtime available in afternoons and on weekends and the flexibility to work evenings/nights/weekends as needed during peak season.

This is a fast-paced, high-volume position where attention to detail, customer communication, and problem-solving skills matter every day.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Operate the ticketing system and manage scale house workflow from the ticketing office window
• Weigh inbound/outbound trucks (aggregate, RAP, liquid asphalt, finished mix)
• Generate, verify, and distribute scale tickets using office equipment and technology
• Confirm truck/customer/job/mix information, including tare/gross/net weights
• Correct ticket errors and reissue tickets as needed
• Track daily tonnage by job, mix design, and customer
• Monitor material movement and flag discrepancies in weights or usage
• Serve as the main point of contact for Foremen, truck drivers, on-site customers, and retail orders
• Communicate plant status, load availability, and expected wait times
• Maintain organized logs and run daily production/scale reports
• Support billing/accounting with clean, accurate documentation
• Help enforce scale house safety rules and site procedures
• Report unresolved issues or discrepancies to plant leadership
  
  

Work Schedule

• Primarily early mornings through early afternoons
• Daily start time between 5:00am – 7:30am
• A LOT of opportunity for overtime in afternoons and on Saturdays and/or Sundays
• Must have the ability to work early mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends as needed during peak season
• Seasonal work typically runs mid-March – early December (guaranteed 40 weeks of seasonal work annually)
