POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced, execution-oriented Director of Information Technology to lead all technology functions for a rapidly growing healthcare startup. This role combines strategic vision with hands-on oversight across infrastructure, cybersecurity, compliance, and vendor management. The ideal candidate understands the unique challenges of healthcare technology — including regulatory compliance, data privacy, and operational uptime — and will partner closely with a Managed Service Provider (MSP) to deliver world-class support and reliability.

Reports to: COO

Location: Mt. Laurel, NJ — Hybrid / Remote

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technology Strategy & Leadership:

  • Develop and execute an IT roadmap aligned with the company’s healthcare mission, regulatory requirements, and growth strategy.
  • Establish scalable systems and processes to support clinical operations, pharmacy systems, telehealth, and administrative functions.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between business leadership and the MSP for technology operations, ensuring alignment on SLAs, priorities, and escalation paths.
  • Evaluate and deploy new technologies to support patient engagement, data analytics, interoperability, and automation.

Infrastructure & Operations:

  • Oversee all core infrastructure including networks, cloud environments (Microsoft 365, Azure/AWS), and business continuity/disaster recovery solutions.
  • Manage MSP performance, ensuring prompt and effective delivery of Level 1 and Level 2 end-user support.
  • Provide internal hands-on leadership for Level 3 escalations, architecture design, and high-impact troubleshooting.
  • Maintain system uptime, security posture, and cost efficiency across all IT environments.

Cybersecurity, Privacy & Compliance:

  • Lead development and enforcement of policies aligned with HIPAA, HITECH, and state data privacy laws.
  • Oversee implementation of security controls, incident response procedures, vulnerability management, and annual risk assessments.
  • Partner with compliance, legal, and operations teams to maintain readiness for audits, certifications (e.g., HITRUST, SOC 2), and payor data-access requirements.
  • Manage identity and access control, endpoint protection, and encryption across all systems.

Applications & Integrations:

  • Oversee core healthcare and business applications such as EHR/EMR, pharmacy management systems, e-prescribing, CRM, HRIS, and ERP tools.
  • Ensure secure integration and data flow between clinical and administrative systems.
  • Evaluate SaaS vendors for scalability, security, and alignment with operational needs.

Vendor & MSP Management:

  • Serve as the primary interface to the Managed Service Provider for service delivery, incident management, and capacity planning.
  • Negotiate and manage vendor contracts, budgets, and performance metrics.
  • Establish governance processes and dashboards for SLA reporting, incident trends, and root-cause analysis.

Team Development:

  • Build internal capability over time by identifying key IT roles to transition from the MSP or supplement with specialized expertise.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across IT and the broader organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • 8 years of progressive IT experience, with at least 3 years in a healthcare or regulated industry.
  • Proven success managing MSPs and third-party vendors.
  • Deep understanding of HIPAA compliance, PHI data handling, and healthcare technology ecosystems.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Azure/AWS, EHR/EMR platforms, and cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, HITRUST).
  • Hands-on technical proficiency and the ability to lead by example.
  • Strong communication, contract management, and project leadership skills.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Opportunity to build the IT foundation of a mission-driven healthcare organization from the ground up.
  • A collaborative, innovative, and agile startup environment.
  • Direct impact on patient outcomes through technology excellence.
  • Competitive compensation, equity participation, and comprehensive benefits that include, but not limited to, health, vision, and dental insurances, PTO, and paid holidays.
