Job Description: Fleet Operations Manager
Department: Operations

Position Summary
The Fleet Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of driver management, asset readiness, safety compliance, truck performance, and operational efficiency. This role ensures drivers are well-supported, equipment is maintained, and the fleet operates at maximum productivity and profitability while maintaining full FMCSA compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Driver Management & Performance
- Recruit, screen, and onboard qualified CDL drivers
- Maintain complete, compliant Driver Qualification Files (DQF)
- Coordinate drug tests, MVR checks, physicals, training, and safety meetings
- Monitor driver performance: on-time delivery, communication, safety scores, and revenue
- Enforce company policies and progressive discipline when needed
- Implement driver coaching programs for safety, fuel efficiency, and customer service
- Handle driver retention programs and performance incentives
2. Fleet & Asset Management
- Ensure trucks are DOT-compliant, inspected, and safe for operation
- Maintain preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for trucks & trailers
- Monitor telematics data: idle time, overspeed, MPG, diagnostic faults (SPNs/FMI)
- Coordinate repairs with in-house mechanics or external shops
- Track breakdowns, tow events, roadside assistance, and downtime
- Oversee equipment assignments & truck availability scheduling
- Ensure proper utilization of assets to achieve highest revenue per truck
3. Operational Oversight
- Coordinate with dispatch team for driver scheduling & load planning
- Maintain optimal driver-to-dispatcher communication
- Monitor load performance: on-time pickups, deliveries, detention, accidents
- Review trip reports, fuel expenses, tolls, and reimbursements
- Ensure proper use of ELD, HOS, and compliance audits
- Improve operational processes to reduce deadhead and increase revenue
4. Safety & Compliance
- Enforce FMCSA safety regulations and company policies
- Investigate incidents, accidents, citations, and near-miss events
- Conduct corrective action training for unsafe behaviors or violations
- Manage DOT files, logs, hours-of-service violations, and safety audits
- Work with insurance and safety consultants for claims and compliance
- Maintain CSA scores within acceptable thresholds
5. Financial & Performance Metrics
- Track KPIs such as:
- Revenue per truck per week
- Cost per mile (CPM)
- Idle time & fuel efficiency
- Accident rate & safety violations
- On-time delivery %
- Monitor maintenance costs & negotiate vendor pricing
- Identify areas to reduce expenses and increase fleet profitability
- Report fleet performance to management weekly
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in trucking operations or fleet management
- Strong understanding of FMCSA, DOT, HOS, ELD, and safety regulations
- Experience using TMS, telematics platforms, maintenance software
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing 10–150 trucks
- Knowledge of common engines (DD13/DD15, Cummins, Paccar)
- Experience with Samsara, Motive, Geotab, or similar systems
- Prior driver coaching or safety management experience

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
