About the Role:
Gaffney Bennett PR is seeking an Associate with 1-2 years of agency and/or in-house experience to join our fast-growing team of strategic communications and digital marketing professionals based in either our Connecticut (Greater Hartford area) or New York (Midtown Manhattan) office. The roster of clients includes public and private companies (across industry lines; from start-ups and the middle-market to FORTUNE 500s), private equity and venture capital firms, non-profits, and high-profile individuals.
This Associate is responsible for helping teams execute tactical plans and campaigns to exceed client
expectations. The ideal candidate is passionate about critical thinking and problem-solving, writing and
storytelling, media relations and social media, and can excel in both team and entrepreneurial environments. This candidate would be part of a growing group of young professionals, reporting directly
to senior team members and operating in a support-focused role, with significant opportunities for
advancement and mentorship from leadership.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Communications
• Support the research, planning, and execution of public relations programs and campaigns;
• Draft and edit communications materials, including press releases, media pitches, talking points, FAQs, memos, and presentations;
• Assist with media relations efforts, including list development, pitching, follow-up, and coverage tracking;
• Help manage media monitoring, reporting, and analysis;
• Support grand openings and other client events—including with onsite participation;
• Support crisis, public affairs, and special situations engagements as needed; and
• Assist with new business research and proposal development.
Digital & Creative
• Support day-to-day management of client social media accounts, including content creation (copy and graphics), publishing, and community engagement;
• Assist in developing social content calendars aligned with broader communications goals;
• Monitor platform trends and propose relevant ideas for content, campaigns, and activations;
• Support influencer identification, outreach, and campaign execution;
• Track social performance and contribute to reporting and insights;
• Support broader graphics, website copy, and other digital marketing priorities, as directed; and
• Assist with new business research and proposal development.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree with relevant major preferred (PR/comms, finance, political science, etc.)
• 1-2 years of relevant professional experience; entry-level with relevant internships or a Master's degree
• Excellent writing, verbal, and presentation skills (writing test and/or samples will be requested)
• Strong organizational and planning skills, as well as being able to work quickly under pressure
• Ability to manage tasks, times, and meet weekly/monthly KPIs in a virtual work environment

• Exceptional attention to detail and deadlines
• Working knowledge of major social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, X/Twitter, Facebook, YouTube), including content best practices, trend monitoring, and basic analytics
• Experienced with Canva, Hootsuite, Meltwater, and CapCut a plus
• Working with crisis-related matters a plus
• Basic understanding of marketing, finance, and/or government principles a plus

Location: Connecticut (Greater Hartford area) or New York (Midtown Manhattan)
In-Office/Remote: Hybrid; At least 3 days per week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree; relevant major a plus
Experience Requirements: 1-2 years (entry-level with/ relevant internship experience also open to apply)
Annual Compensation: $50-70K total compensation (base salary plus discretionary year-end bonus),
commensurate with experience, location, and performance
