Key Responsibilities
- Attend pre-bid meetings and review project scopes to understand requirements, even with limited initial information provided
- Analyze project bid documents, drawings, and specifications
- Find and supervise subcontractor and vendor quotes for outsourced work
- Conduct thorough quantity takeoffs using on-screen estimating software within specified deadlines
- Collaborate with estimators, operations teams, and internal departments
- Compile, assess, and finalize estimates accurately and on time
- Join internal bid-day reviews with leadership for pricing and strategy confirmation
- Assess subcontractor and vendor proposals for completeness, compliance, and schedule alignment
- Create value engineering options to support client goals and project efficiency
- Write detailed scope narratives to bolster proposals
- Provide post-award support to field operations to ensure smooth transition from estimate to execution
- Manage multiple bid schedules and consistently meet proposal deadlines
- Identify project requirements and cost drivers proactively, even with limited data
- Balance high-level project understanding with strong attention to detail for client satisfaction
Experience & Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mechanical estimating, with a focus on industrial, HVAC, and plumbing systems
- Proven track record in estimating process piping projects
- Knowledgeable in Design-Build and Plan & Spec project delivery methods
- Proficient in estimating software, on-screen takeoff tools, and spreadsheet applications
- Ability to produce accurate and competitive estimates with minimal information
- Understanding of cost structures and requirements for Design-Build projects
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders
- Thorough knowledge of HVAC, industrial systems, and piping systems
Preferred:
- Experience in heavy industrial mechanical estimating environments
- Advanced expertise in process piping estimation
