Job Summary
The Activities Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive activities program for residents in a long-term care facility. This role focuses on enhancing the quality of life for seniors through engaging recreational and therapeutic activities. The Activities Coordinator will work closely with staff, residents, and their families to create a vibrant community atmosphere that promotes socialization, wellness, and personal fulfillment.
Duties
- Develop and implement a diverse range of activities tailored to the interests and needs of residents in assisted living or nursing home settings.
- Coordinate recreational therapy programs that support physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being.
- Assess residents' preferences and abilities to create personalized activity plans.
- Facilitate group activities such as arts and crafts, games, fitness classes, and outings to enhance social interaction.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure activities align with residents' care plans and address aging issues effectively.
- Communicate regularly with residents and families to encourage participation and gather feedback on programs.
- Train and supervise volunteers or staff assisting with activities to ensure high-quality engagement.
- Maintain accurate records of participation in activities and evaluate the effectiveness of programs regularly.
Requirements
- Experience in long-term care settings, particularly in senior care or assisted living environments is preferred.
- Background in recreational therapy or related fields is a plus.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and staff members.
- Knowledge of aging issues counseling and the ability to work with individuals with disabilities/dementia is desirable.
- Ability to develop engaging programming that meets the diverse needs of residents.
- Compassionate approach towards assisting seniors in enhancing their quality of life through meaningful activities.
