Description

SWEEP (Supported Work Experience & Employment Program) Optical is a social enterprise of Laurel Hill Center that produces eyewear for Oregon state agencies, Oregon Health Plan (OHP) participants, and wholesale customers.

The SWEEP Production Manager provides administrative, operational, and supervisory oversight to production staff to ensure that SWEEP Optical operates in full compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing ophthalmic laboratories.

In alignment with Laurel Hill Center’s mission and supported employment model, the Production Manager is responsible for ensuring that SWEEP consistently produces high-quality eyewear in accordance with contractual requirements, while fostering an inclusive, trauma-informed, and supportive work environment. This role supports competitive, integrated employment opportunities, skill development, and career advancement for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment.

The Production Manager balances production efficiency and quality control with coaching, mentorship, and individualized support to promote employee success, independence, and workplace equity.

In addition, the Production Manager serves as a back-up optician for the retail location, assisting the optometrist with eye-exam pre-screening and post-exam fitting and dispensing of glasses

Requirements

The SWEEP Production Manager must possess ophthalmic production expertise, supervisory experience, and the ability to lead an inclusive manufacturing environment that balances regulatory compliance, quality production, and supported employment for individuals with disabilities.

Core Job Requirements - Schedule - Monday thru Friday 8:30 am - 5 pm

  • Education & Certification
  • ABO (American Board of Opticianry) Certification required at time of hire
  • Ongoing ability to maintain certification and stay current with ophthalmic standards
  • Technical & Professional Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an ophthalmic laboratory environment, including:
    • Use and maintenance of conventional and digital ophthalmic production equipment
    • Knowledge of raw materials used in eyewear production
  • Demonstrated ability to meet ANSI standards and contractual production requirements
  • Experience maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to ophthalmic labs, workplace safety, and hazardous materials
  • Supervisory & Leadership Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience, including:
    • Staff training, coaching, and performance evaluation
    • Addressing performance and interpersonal issues
    • Managing competing priorities and operational deadlines
  • Experience approving time records, tracking leave, and enforcing personnel policies
  • Ability to conduct annual performance reviews aligned with organizational expectations

  • Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Ability to perform essential physical functions, including:
    • Lifting up to 30 pounds
    • Standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping
    • Repetitive motion and extensive computer use
  • Tolerance of:
    • Strong odors
    • Lab and production environments
  • Local travel as required
