Role Description: The Assistant Controller is a full-time, on-site role based in Franklin, IN. This position will assist the Controller in accounting, financial reporting, month-end close, internal controls, and financial analysis processes. This role ensures the accuracy of accounting data and compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. The Assistant Controller will also supervise our invoicing, accounts payable and collection team members on a day-to-day basis.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in accounting softwares such as Sage Pro and/or Microsoft Dynamics Business Central
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring accounting personnel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA certification or CPA candidate status with public accounting/audit experience
  • Experience with ERP implementation, optimization, or process automation
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or corporate accounting environment.
  • Experience with inventory accounting, standard costing, and manufacturing accounting.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis and internal controls

  • Standard business hours with occasional overtime during month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close periods

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate journal entries and general ledger transactions.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities including all supporting schedules
  • Assists with the preparation and review of financial statements and management reporting
  • Provide oversight and support to the Accounts Receivable, Collections, and Accounts Payable functions.
  • Monitor AR aging, collections activity, customer account balances, and credit issues.
  • Help establish and maintain appropriate AR and AP processes and internal controls.
  • Reconcile bank statements and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Analyze financial data and identify discrepancies or unusual transactions.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities.
  • Assist with external audits and provide requested documentation.
  • Support the Controller with maintaining fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
  • Identify opportunities to automate, simplify, and standardize accounting processes  and strengthen internal controls.
  • Enter sales tax returns and payments in multiple states.
  • Assists with filing income tax returns on a timely and accurate basis
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.
