About The Position
TIRRC is seeking a dedicated organizer to work with our organizing team to connect individuals from Knoxville's immigrant and refugee communities to TIRRC's campaigns and leadership development opportunities. The ideal candidate for this position is an established leader within the immigrant and refugee communities in Knoxville with strong communication and organizing skills.
Responsibilities
Community Organizing
- Hold individual and group meetings to deepen relationships, identify leadership opportunities for members through circles of engagement, and identify important issues affecting the community;
- Build a base of engaged leaders from diverse immigrant and refugee communities who can inform and lead TIRRC's advocacy campaigns;
- Facilitate the engagement of immigrant and refugee leaders, organizations, and communities in civic engagement efforts and in TIRRC's issue advocacy campaigns;
- Support mobilization efforts to increase participation of diverse immigrant and refugee communities in TIRRC events, actions, and support the growth of the membership.
- Lead outreach efforts to ensure that immigrant and refugee communities have information about and access to TIRRC's services and leadership development opportunities;
- Facilitate community education campaigns and trainings/Training of Trainers with community leaders to ensure that immigrant and refugee communities have accurate and timely information about policy changes that impact the lives of their community;
- Represent TIRRC at community events, in the media, and with other organizations as needed;
- Ensure all data is maintained in the organizational database.
- Belief in TIRRC's mission and experience with social justice;
- Fluency in English and Spanish required;
- Demonstrated ability to work on deadline, be highly organized, work with little supervision, and maintain accountability and strong communication with others in collaborative projects;
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, and to build and maintain relationships with partners;
- Demonstrated ability and comfort with public speaking;
- Experience with community organizing and outreach preferred;
- Availability to work flexible hours, including some nights, weekends, and travel statewide;
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Hourly Rate: $24/hour for 15-30 hours/week
