What are the responsibilities and job description for the MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN – ARCADE & ATTRACTIONS position at Fun Zone Mini Golf?
Fun Zone USA is looking for a curious, hands-on Maintenance Technician to help build, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair our arcade equipment, attractions, and facility systems.
Previous arcade experience is helpful, but it is not required. Arcade machines combine skills from many different fields, including electronics, mechanical repair, computers, software, networking, displays, audio, sensors, motors, lighting, and general facilities maintenance.
Strong candidates may come from arcade or amusement repair, appliance repair, automotive diagnostics, electronics, computer repair, IT support, vending, casino equipment, low-voltage installation, AV systems, HVAC, field service, facilities maintenance, or another hands-on technical field.
Entry-level candidates may also apply if they demonstrate mechanical aptitude, basic electrical and computer knowledge, safe tool use, patience, curiosity, and a genuine willingness to learn.
You do not need to know how to repair every machine on your first day. You do need to know how to approach an unfamiliar problem responsibly.
THE REALITY OF THE ROLE
Fun is what our guests see. Dependable equipment and disciplined maintenance make that fun possible.
This is a rewarding position for someone who enjoys solving unusual problems, but not every repair will have an obvious answer. Manuals may be incomplete, parts may be difficult to identify, and intermittent failures may disappear while equipment is being tested. A repair attempt may not work the first time.
The right technician does not guess recklessly or give up when the answer is unclear. They make the equipment safe, observe the symptoms, gather information, narrow down possible causes, test methodically, research unfamiliar systems, ask for help when appropriate, and verify that the repair actually worked.
Creative thinking is encouraged, but safety and repair quality always come first. We want reliable solutions—not shortcuts that create another problem later.
TEACHABILITY AND COLLABORATION
Technical ability matters, but teachability is essential.
We are not looking for someone who believes they already know everything, dismisses other perspectives, or insists that every problem must be solved their way. Arcade equipment varies widely, and similar symptoms can have very different causes. Even an experienced technician will regularly encounter unfamiliar machines, unusual repairs, and new information.
The right technician has the patience to hear people out before responding or acting. They ask questions, consider different interpretations, test their assumptions, accept constructive feedback, and change direction when new evidence points toward a better solution.
We value someone who is confident enough to contribute ideas, humble enough to consider another approach, and willing to learn from technicians, managers, manufacturers, manuals, and team members at every experience level.
Experience is valuable. A willingness to keep learning is required.
OUR CULTURE: IT’S IN YOU, NOT ON YOU
At Fun Zone USA, enthusiasm, hospitality, creativity, and personal responsibility are not things you simply put on with a uniform. They must come from within.
We call this “It’s in you, not on you.”
We are an outgoing, energetic, and guest-facing environment. You do not need to be the loudest person in the room, but you should be approachable, communicate well with others, and understand that repair work frequently happens around guests and team members.
OUR CORE VALUES
We Are a Welcoming Community
We treat guests and team members with patience and respect. We communicate clearly and help people feel comfortable asking questions or reporting problems.
We Are Excited to Be Here
We bring curiosity, energy, and pride to our work—even when the task is difficult, repetitive, or behind the scenes.
We Keep Things Fresh
We continue learning, improve our repair methods, maintain organized systems, and look for better ways to prevent recurring problems.
We Celebrate Uniqueness and Creativity
We value different backgrounds and ways of thinking. Unusual equipment problems frequently require resourcefulness and a fresh perspective.
Don’t Learn Safety by Accident
Safety is intentional. We inspect proactively, use tools correctly, follow procedures, communicate hazards, and remove unsafe equipment from service before someone gets hurt.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair arcade games, attractions, and related facility equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, computer, software, networking, display, audio, sensor, and peripheral problems
- Troubleshoot Windows-based computers, software configurations, drivers, displays, storage devices, USB peripherals, audio equipment, and basic network connectivity
- Determine whether a failure originates from software, computer hardware, networking, electrical power, or a machine’s mechanical components
- Install and configure replacement computer hardware and software when required
- Use manuals, schematics, service documentation, diagnostic tools, manufacturer support, and reliable online resources
- Safely use hand tools, power tools, multimeters, and other testing equipment
- Identify root causes instead of repeatedly treating symptoms
- Perform preventive maintenance to reduce unexpected equipment failures
- Build, move, install, level, connect, and test arcade equipment
- Assist with general facility repairs and maintenance when needed
- Identify safety hazards and take appropriate action before equipment is returned to service
- Clearly label and secure equipment that is unsafe or awaiting further repair
- Document symptoms, diagnostic steps, completed repairs, parts used, and remaining follow-up
- Maintain organized tools, parts, workspaces, and maintenance records
- Communicate equipment status, downtime, repair priorities, and parts needs to management and other technicians
- Work with manufacturers, vendors, and technical support when additional information or specialized parts are needed
- Help improve inspection checklists, preventive-maintenance schedules, repair documentation, and parts-inventory systems
- Provide professional and courteous assistance when working around guests and team members
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Enjoy understanding how things work
- Approach problems logically and test possible causes methodically
- Are patient when an answer is not immediately obvious
- Can teach yourself unfamiliar systems using reliable resources
- Have basic mechanical aptitude and experience using common tools
- Have a basic understanding of electricity, electrical safety, voltage, continuity, fuses, switches, connectors, and power supplies
- Have a basic working knowledge of computer hardware and software
- Are familiar with Windows, internal computer components, drivers, storage devices, displays, cables, USB peripherals, and basic networking
- Can distinguish between software, computer hardware, network, electrical, and mechanical problems
- Notice small details and recognize patterns in equipment behavior
- Think creatively without compromising safety or repair quality
- Look for developing problems before they become complete failures
- Can distinguish an urgent safety issue from a guest-impacting outage or lower-priority cosmetic repair
- Listen fully before responding, diagnosing, or making changes
- Explain your reasoning while remaining open to other interpretations
- Accept coaching and constructive feedback without becoming defensive
- Reconsider an initial diagnosis when new evidence becomes available
- Share knowledge respectfully without dismissing other people’s ideas
- Follow established procedures even when you might personally approach a task differently
- Know when to continue investigating and when to stop or escalate a problem
- Document your work and communicate unfinished items clearly
- Take responsibility for the quality and safety of your repairs
- Can work independently while remaining part of a collaborative team
Advanced experience in every technical area is not expected. We are more interested in a strong foundation, good judgment, and the ability to learn than in someone who already knows every type of arcade equipment.
PHYSICAL AND SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS
This is an active, hands-on position. The work may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, working from ladders, accessing low or confined equipment areas, and assisting with moving or positioning heavy arcade equipment using proper equipment and team-lifting practices, with or without reasonable accommodation.
The schedule may include evenings and weekends. Occasional flexibility may be required when an unexpected equipment failure or facility issue significantly affects guest safety or operations.
TOOLS AND DEVELOPMENT
Fun Zone USA provides the tools and equipment required for the position.
Because arcade equipment combines technologies from many industries, this role provides ongoing opportunities to expand your mechanical, electrical, electronic, computer, networking, and troubleshooting skills.
