About the position
The Decanter Operator is responsible for the monitoring and operation of extraction machines within the Processing Department, ensuring safe and sanitary practices while adhering to operational policies and good manufacturing practices. This role involves operating multiple pieces of equipment, conducting quality checks, and maintaining effective communication with other operators to ensure optimal product flow.
Responsibilities
- Operates and monitors multiple pieces of equipment simultaneously to conform to maintenance and quality standards.
- Identifies problems and initiates adjustments for efficient and optimal operation.
- Verifies connection of feed/discharge hoses and levels of feed/discharge tanks for proper product flow.
- Cleans and sanitizes equipment and associated piping and tanks.
- Conducts product quality checks in process and adjusts settings as needed.
- Documents all operating parameters and current set points, calculating and recording product flow data accurately.
- Informs supervisor of all operational problems encountered and actions taken to resolve them, with recommendations to prevent reoccurrences.
- Communicates and coordinates with other process equipment operators to ensure efficient product flow.
- Responsible for addressing potential food safety and quality issues of product.
- Maintains professional conduct, working safely and cooperating with co-workers.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to communicate in English and write routine correspondence.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Requires the use of judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions.
- Ability to work with cleaning chemicals.
