Join our team as a Strategic Buyer and play a key role in driving sourcing strategies that support business growth, operational excellence, and long-term supplier partnerships. In this role, you will lead strategic sourcing initiatives for assigned categories, ensuring reliable, cost-effective, and compliant supply solutions that align with company objectives.

The Strategic Buyer is responsible for managing the full sourcing lifecycle, including supplier development, contract negotiations, RFQ/RFP processes, cost reduction initiatives, supplier performance management, and risk mitigation strategies. You will collaborate closely with Operational Buyers and cross-functional teams to optimize total cost of ownership (TCO), strengthen supplier relationships, and support uninterrupted operations across the business.

This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and results-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys building strong partnerships while delivering measurable value.

What You Will Do

Supplier Base Development & Category Management

  • Identify, qualify, and develop the supplier base for the assigned spend categories (direct materials, indirect materials, and/or services), aligned with category strategies and corporate sourcing principles.
  • Conduct market intelligence and supply market analysis — capacity, technology, cost drivers, regulatory trends, competitive landscape — to inform sourcing decisions and identify new supplier opportunities.
  • Lead supplier onboarding and qualification, including financial, technical, quality, sustainability, and compliance due diligence in partnership with Quality, Finance, Legal, and EHS.
  • Develop and maintain category strategies (3–5 year horizon) with clear objectives on cost, quality, service, innovation, sustainability, and risk.
  • Manage the strategic supplier portfolio — segmenting suppliers (strategic, preferred, transactional, phase-out) and shaping the base toward the desired structure.

Contract Negotiation, Pricing & Incoterms

  • Negotiate long-term contracts, master service agreements, pricing frameworks, rebates, volume commitments, payment terms, and Incoterms with strategic and preferred suppliers.
  • Define and document commercial terms (price formulas, indexation, currency, lead times, MOQs, liability, IP, confidentiality, termination clauses) in partnership with Legal and Finance.
  • Maintain a structured contract repository with clear visibility on validity, renewals, escalations, and key obligations; proactively manage the contract pipeline to avoid expiry gaps.
  • Ensure negotiated terms are accurately reflected in the ERP system (NetSuite) so the Operational Buyer can execute purchase orders against the correct prices, payment terms, and lead times.
  • Lead annual price negotiations, indexation reviews, and cost recovery initiatives with key suppliers in alignment with corporate financial targets.

Supplier Performance & Risk Management

  • Monitor supplier performance through KPIs including delivery, quality, responsiveness, cost, and sustainability metrics.
  • Lead supplier business reviews, corrective action plans, supplier development initiatives, and resourcing activities when necessary.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks including single-source dependency, capacity constraints, geopolitical exposure, financial instability, and regulatory concerns.
  • Support contingency planning through dual sourcing, alternate supplier qualification, and supply continuity strategies.
  • Lead end-to-end strategic sourcing events (RFI, RFQ, RFP, e-auctions) following the Competitive Bidding policy — scope definition, supplier shortlist, evaluation criteria, award recommendation, and stakeholder approval.
  • Ensure supplier compliance with company policies, supplier code of conduct, ESG expectations, and applicable regulations.

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Reduction & Value Engineering

  • Drive TCO reduction initiatives across pricing, logistics, inventory, quality, and lifecycle costs.
  • Partner with Engineering, R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality on value engineering and specification optimization initiatives.
  • Utilize cost analysis methods including should-cost modeling, TCO analysis, clean-sheet costing, supplier consolidation, and low-cost-country sourcing.
  • Track and report cost savings, cost avoidance, and working capital improvements in partnership with Finance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Partner closely with Operational Buyers to ensure strategic agreements support effective day-to-day procurement execution.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Finance, Planning, Legal, Quality, and Sustainability teams to align sourcing strategies with business needs.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives through supplier selection, design-to-cost efforts, qualification activities, and production readiness.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to stakeholders by providing sourcing recommendations, supplier insights, and market intelligence.
  • Perform other duties as assign.

Requirements

Do You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Finance, or related field required, MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or category management within manufacturing, industrial, technology, or similarly complex environments.
  • Proven experience managing RFQ/RFP processes, supplier negotiations, and long-term supplier relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of contract management, procurement compliance, Incoterms 2020, and supplier risk management.
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and sourcing or contract management platforms such as Coupa, SAP Ariba, Jaggaer, Ivalua, or Icertis.
  • Advanced analytical skills including should-cost modeling, TCO analysis, and pricing analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting/BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.

What Will Make You a Rockstar

  • ISM CPSM, APICS CPIM/CSCP, CIPS, Lean Six Sigma, or related certifications.
  • Experience managing global suppliers and low-cost-country sourcing initiatives.
  • Familiarity with sustainable procurement, supplier diversity, scope-3 emissions tracking, and ESG due diligence frameworks.
  • Experience with e-auctions and digital negotiation platforms.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
