Job Summary

A Certified Peer Recovery Supporter prioritizes their own recovery while delivering empathetic services rooted in their extensive training and expertise. The successful candidate will work closely with the CPRS Coordinator and Site Program Manager to offer the best services for all clients of the agency.   The successful candidate will promote hope, personal responsibility, and empowerment. They will serve as a bridge between individuals in recovery and the clinical treatment team, offering an individual level of empathy and validation that comes from shared experience. The successful candidate will focus on peer-to-peer connection and navigating daily life in recovery rather than clinical diagnosis.

Primary Duties

  • Exhibit proficiency in identifying and addressing complex client needs and role modeling recovery focused behaviors.
  • Assist individuals in identifying their own goals and developing personalized recovery or wellness action plans (e.g., WRAP).
  • Educate clients by providing direction and guidance in a professional manner.
  • Share relevant personal recovery stories to inspire hope and demonstrate that long-term recovery is possible.
  • Maintaining professional and ethical boundaries while sharing personal experiences.
  • Connect individuals with essential community resources, including housing, employment, healthcare, and transportation.
  • Act as a representative for clients within the Full Circle system and/or within the community to ensure needs and rights are respected.
  • Lead or co-lead peer support groups and educational workshops focused on coping strategies and life skills.
  • Recognize early warning signs of distress or relapse and provide non-clinical intervention, such as de-escalation and linkage to clinical services for additional support.
  • Coordinate with treatment teams to align peer support with the individual's overall treatment plan.
  • Engage with individuals in various settings, such as sober living, treatment facility, hospitals, jails, shelters, or community centers, to initiate support.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of interactions and progress within electronic health records (EHR)system(s).
  • Cultivate effective and respectful rapport with clients and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client’s pertinent health information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Demonstrate adherence to accept ethical and behavioral standards of conduct.
  • Exhibit proficient skills in documentation in a neat, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in continuing education, online training, and staff meetings.
  • Attend and participate in weekly supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

​​Qualifications and Education Requirements​

  • Personal history of recovery from substance uses or mental health disorder of sustained stability (1–2 years).
  • Must carry out detailed written and oral instructions, along with the ability to understand human behavior.   
  • Must maintain a professional demeanor while dealing with emotionally charged individuals and issues. 
  • Must effectively present information and respond to questions from a diverse demographic group.
  • Must be able to make decisions at times with imperfect information.   
  • Must have the ability to write reports and correspondence.   
  • Must have effective listening and communication skills.  
  • Understand the elements of addiction and community resources. 
  • Empathy, active listening, and strong communication skills. 
  • Ability to maintain boundaries and uphold confidentiality. 
  • Proficient computer skills.  
  • Willingness to support the agency’s mission and philosophy. 
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity. 
  • Capacity to work collaboratively within a team and independently. 
  • Strong Organizational Skills with working knowledge of Community Resources.  
  • This position may require the use of a Company or personal vehicle. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and possess the ability to comply with company auto insurance policy.
