Position Summary
We are looking for a motivated Cost Accountant to support an Operations Finance team within a manufacturing setting. This role focuses on cost analysis, inventory accounting, journal entry preparation, and month-end close activities. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional partners to enhance financial accuracy, streamline reporting, and improve overall processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support month-end close processes, including preparing routine and non-routine journal entries
- Review general ledger activity, investigate discrepancies, and resolve variances
- Perform inventory reconciliations and research unusual or out-of-balance transactions
- Analyze cost variances related to material usage, purchase price, and production yield
- Compile financial reports and supporting schedules for leadership review
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and maintain strong internal controls
- Identify and recommend improvements to costing methodologies and reporting workflows
- Participate in cross-training initiatives and assist with special projects as assigned
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in accounting or finance
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and cost accounting concepts
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively across teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or operations-focused environment
- Advanced Excel skills, including formulas and charts (macros a plus)
- Familiarity with U.S. GAAP; exposure to SOX or IFRS is beneficial
