What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Caregiver/Kennel Staff - FULL TIME position at Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA)?
FOHA (Friends of Homeless Animals) is a private 501(c) (3) non-profit, no-kill rescue and shelter located in Aldie, Va. We rescue cats and dogs in need of homes and place them with their forever families. FOHA is the enduring gold standard in quality for no-kill rescues, saving and improving the lives of homeless cats and dogs.
We are seeking an Animal Caregiver/Kennel Staff to join our team! You will be responsible for the overall care and well-being of the animals at our facility.
Shifts:
- We have staff on duty 365 days a year and 11 hours a day to cover cleaning, morning and evening feedings, and a host of other responsibilities.
- Staff works 5 days a week (at least ONE weekend day required) with an average of 40 hours per week. Typical days are Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday.
Job Requirements:
- Able to lift at least 40 pounds
- Handle the elements of indoor and outdoor work throughout the entire year
- Work with and handle both cats and dogs
- Punctuality (being on time is a must so the animals are getting fed at the same times everyday)
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Applicants must be 18 years or older.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the overall care and well-being of the animals at our facility
- Properly clean and sanitize assigned runs, rooms, buildings, outside areas according to FOHA’s sanitation protocols
- Handle general care tasks such as feeding and medicating
- Keep records of animal feedings, treatments, and other updates
- Performs light grooming and reports grooming needs
- Engage in play activities and exercise with the animals
- Maintain a clean and healthy environment
Qualifications::
- Strong desire to work with animals. Previous experience is a plus.
- Ability to interact with animals in a calm, non-threatening manner
- Ability to create and encourage a positive work environment.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Vacation time is offered after 1 year of full-time employment in addition to an eye/dental plan (after 1 month), and 5 paid holidays (effective upon employment start date).
