JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of a licensed professional, the Medication Aide provides medications by oral and typical routes, by inhalation to the respiratory system, and by installation to eyes, ears, and nose.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Shall be at least 18 years old.
2. Has successfully completed the state recommended medication aide course.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of principles and techniques involved in dealing with the physical, mental, and emotional health of adult clients.
4. Have skills necessary to assist or implement daily activities and exercises.
5. Demonstrate ability to assist client with ADL needs (i.e. baths, nail care, feeding, etc.)
6. Able to make decisions to work independently, to exercise good judgement.
7. Must be flexible, have emotional stability; acceptance of people; non-judgmental, non-prejudicial; and is highly motivated.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Follows facility’s policies and procedures to provide medications to clients.
2. Provides treatment to clients per physician or nurse’s orders.
a. Applies ointments, skin preparations, suppositories, eardrops, and eye drops.
b. Examines client’s skin and feet, provides appropriate care as needed and reports as necessary to licensed professionals.
3. Records medications provided on appropriate medical records to ensure accurate record keeping. Completes drug incident reports when problems occur.
4. Records nurse’s notes and changes in client’s condition, skin problems noted, or other incidents.
5. Monitors vital signs and reports problems to licensed professional staff.
6. Quickly analyze and react to emergency and stressful situations, while remaining calm. Reports emergencies relating to clients, medications, or facility.
7. Provides reports to next shift or client medication and/or condition changes.
8. Sets up medication or coordinated with pharmacy to set up medications as ordered by physician for the clients as needed.
9. Monitors documentation of administration of medications and treatments for clients.
10. Maintains records of CEU’s in accordance with prevailing professional standards.
11. Reports any evidence of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of any client.

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
