A Unit Manager in a nursing home oversees patient care, supervises nursing/CNA staff, ensures regulatory compliance, and serves as a liaison between residents, families, and administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care Oversight: Ensure residents receive high-quality care according to individualized care plans and physician orders, monitoring progress and addressing any issues promptly
- Staff Supervision: Direct, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs, ensuring proper staffing, training, and performance management
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain adherence to federal and state regulations, including CMS standards, and facility policies
- Communication: Serve as a liaison between residents, families, and healthcare teams, addressing concerns and providing updates on care
- Operational Management: Oversee daily unit operations, including scheduling, workflow coordination, and resource allocation
- Budget and Resource Management: Assist in managing unit budgets, supplies, and equipment to ensure efficient operations
- Emergency Response: Act professionally and make decisions during high-stress situations or medical emergencies
Required Qualifications
- Education: Active RN license
- Experience: 1–3 years of supervisory experience in long-term care or healthcare settings; geriatrics experience preferred
- Certifications: CPR certification and ongoing continuing education
