Position Objective:
The person in this role is responsible for providing support to the teachers, parents/guardians,
and students with a specific responsibility and focus on the physical needs of students. The primary role within this position is to service students on the assigned caseload, to conduct evaluations, participate in Team meetings, be an active participant in our Building
Based Support Teams, and provide creative and thoughtful recommendations to aid in student
success. The FLRSD is seeking a physical therapist/adapted physical education teacher who is caring, empathetic, compassionate, and committed to each student's success, while also demonstrating a proficient understanding of compliance with the DESE standards.
Responsibilities:
Provide physical therapy services in the assessment of, educational planning for, monitoring of, and reevaluation of students in need of special services, in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local codes and regulations.
Use observation and various assessment techniques as a certified physical therapist and conduct appropriate assessments of students in all phases of the evaluation process as related to physical therapy and adapted physical education in the school setting. Share findings in writing and orally with appropriate staff and family so that effective interventions and programs are provided.
Write Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, accommodations, treatment plans and progress reports as well as maintain appropriate log of services and Medicaid records.
Travel to and from schools on a daily basis for services, consultations and Team meetings.
Lift, transfer and position students and equipment and demonstrate for others, as necessary, to provide services.
Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as required by law and regulation or requested by supervisors.
Continue to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences.
Order and maintain inventory of assistive equipment for students.
Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications, as assigned by the Director of Student Services and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
Plan and teach adapted physical education lessons
Work collaboratively as a member of the educational team.
Communicate with parents regarding students' communication needs and their progress.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree
Massachusetts License in Physical Therapy
Valid Adaptive Physical Education certification/licensure
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:
Three (3) Years of Experience
Master’s Degree with advanced credentials; Doctorate Degree ( not equal to a PhD)
Demonstrated success in designing and delivering physical therapy exercises and adapted physical education lessons aligned with the goals and objectives in the students’ IEPs
Experience differentiating instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, including English Learners and students with disabilities
Knowledge of data-driven instruction and use of assessment to inform therapeutic practices
Strong ability to conduct physical therapy and adapted physical education evaluations, write evaluation reports, and present at team meetings
Familiarity with inclusive practices and culturally responsive teaching
Proficiency with technology, digital learning tools, and blended learning approaches
Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with students, families, colleagues, and administrators
Commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective practice
Ability to foster an engaging, supportive, and respectful learning environment that promotes equity and high expectations for all students
Salary & Terms of Employment: In accordance with the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employment is contingent upon job performance, program needs, and funding. Salary: $51,273 or higher depending on education and experience per the CBA
