Job Overview

Patient Safety Partner - Help Shape Safer Care for Patients

Are you passionate about patient safety?

Do you want to use your lived experience as a patient, carer, family member or member of the public to help improve healthcare services?

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking Patient Safety Partners to work alongside staff and leaders to help strengthen patient safety, influence decision-making, and support the delivery of the safest possible care for our patients.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a meaningful role in shaping how patient safety is governed, monitored and improved across the Trust.

What is a Patient Safety Partner?

Patient Safety Partners are patients, carers, family members and other members of the public who work in partnership with NHS organisations to influence and improve the governance, leadership and culture of patient safety.

Supported by NHS England, this role provides an opportunity to contribute independent perspectives, offer constructive challenge, and ensure that the patient voice is central to safety improvement work.

Main duties of the job

About The Role

As a Patient Safety Partner, you will work collaboratively with Trust staff and leaders to support the development of a positive patient safety culture and contribute to ongoing safety improvement initiatives.

The Role Will Include

  • Contributing to safety improvement projects and working groups
  • Providing a patient and public perspective on safety matters
  • Working with Trust teams to identify opportunities to improve patient safety and patient experience
  • Supporting the development and strengthening of patient safety systems and processes across the Trust

As this is a developing role, you will have the opportunity to help shape how Patient Safety Partners contribute within the organisation.

Working for our organisation

As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you. Speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

With around 2 million contacts with patients every year, we deliver care from:

  • Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI)
  • Freeman Hospital
  • Newcastle Dental Hospital
  • Cramlington Manor Walks
  • Urgent treatment centres
  • Newcastle Fertility Centre

These include a range of flagship services which deliver cutting-edge care (supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic services in both radiology and pathology) and are a catalyst for innovation to support pioneering clinical practice in the NHS.

We also have offices at Regent Point in Gosforth and community sites.
