Who We Are: ️ Redefining ︎ mobility since 1987
Leading manufacturer and retailer of wheelchair-accessible vehicles
Nationwide, family-owned & operated, headquartered in Battle Creek, MI

Our wheelchair-accessible vehicle conversions give our customers the freedom to live life on their own terms. The Welder is a skilled, hands-on member of our manufacturing team, responsible for precision welding throughout the vehicle conversion process. This role requires technical expertise, a strong commitment to quality, and a genuine appreciation for the importance of the work that directly impacts the independence and quality of life for our customers.

What You'll Do: Your hands-on work drives our production.
  • Assume responsibility for the welding part of the manufacturing process.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications as directed.
  • Operate MIG welder, grinder, reciprocating saw, and cut-off wheel.
  • Ability to bend and shape pipes of various materials and sizes with precision.
  • Knowledge in pipe fitting and welding techniques.
  • Maintain equipment, inspect for performance and/or safety concerns, and perform troubleshooting as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with Freedom Motors’ quality and safety standards, policies and procedures, and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Ability to read wiring schematics and diagrams and follow both written and verbal work instructions.
What You'll Need: We’re looking for hands-on experience and a strong technical foundation.
  • Proven hands-on welding experience, ideally in automotive manufacturing or a related field.
  • Proficiency with welding machine operation, including regulating current and voltage for proper metal fusion.
  • Ability to read and fabricate from drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical sketches.
  • Pre-inspection skills and attention to quality — you catch your own errors before they move down the line.
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems independently and propose effective solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to follow both written and verbal work instructions.
  • Outstanding attendance record and reliability.
Who We Want: More than skills, we’re looking for people who care about the work they do.
  • Mission-Driven Craftspeople: You take pride in precision. Every weld you make ends up in a vehicle that a person with a disability will depend on — and you hold yourself to that standard.
  • Safety-First Professionals: You follow safety protocols because you genuinely care about yourself, your teammates, and the end customer — not just because it’s required.
Self-Starting Problem Solvers: When you see a problem, you dig in and figure it out. You don’t wait to be told what to do.
  • Reliable Team Players: You show up, follow through, and support the people around you contributing to a culture of accountability and excellence.
  • Lifelong Learners: You’re committed to improving your craft and staying current because better skills mean better vehicles.
