Primary Purpose: 

Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• High school diploma or GED
• 48 accredited college hours or Texas approved state paraprofessional training
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to work well with children
• Ability to communicate effectively

Experience:

• Some experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

General

1. Demonstrates thoroughness, reliability and a high degree of accuracy in performing work assignments.
2. Works cooperatively with others and maintains a positive attitude in the work environment.
3. Demonstrates initiative and good judgment in problem solving and decision- making.
4. Reports promptly and maintains good attendance.

Instructional

1. Assists teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom display.
2. Assists with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
3. Helps maintain neat and orderly gym.
4. Helps with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
5. Helps teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
6. Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

Student Management

1. Conducts instructional exercises assigned by the coach; work with individual students or small groups.
2. Helps supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom to include lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
3. Keeps teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

1. Participates in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
2. Participates in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
3. Performs other duties as assigned.
