Position Summary
The Service Development Director (SDD) is responsible for leading the implementation of strategic business development and marketing plans to drive patient referrals, census growth, and community engagement. This role serves as a key liaison between referral sources, patients, families, and the hospital to ensure appropriate admissions and continuity of care.
The SDD oversees Service Development Representatives (SDRs), manages territory-based outreach strategies, and ensures alignment with organizational goals, compliance standards, and performance metrics.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic marketing and business development plans to meet census and referral goals
- Build and maintain strong relationships with physicians, referral sources, and community partners
- Conduct pre-admission screenings and coordinate with clinical teams to determine patient eligibility
- Serve as liaison between referral sources, patients/families, and hospital leadership
- Oversee and manage SDR team activities, territories, and performance expectations
- Monitor and track referrals, admissions, and outreach activity through CRM systems
- Lead community outreach, education, and mental health awareness initiatives
- Analyze market trends and adjust strategies to optimize growth
- Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and documentation standards
- Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly reporting, including KPI tracking and budget performance
- Support performance improvement initiatives across departments
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of healthcare marketing, business development, or related experience preferred
- Experience in behavioral health or hospital setting strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to analyze data and drive strategic decisions
- Proficient with CRM systems, mobile tools, and Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, goal-driven environment
- Basic understanding of medical and psychiatric diagnoses preferred
Additional Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
- Proof of Auto Insurance
- Ability to travel locally (up to 90–95% of the time)
- CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
- Completion of required training (including behavioral management and compliance training)
