Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our private mental health practice in Frederick, Maryland.
This hybrid role requires the PMHNP to maintain a consistent presence in our comfortable outpatient office for in-person client evaluations and follow-ups, while also leveraging telehealth for scheduled virtual appointments. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive psychiatric care with a high degree of autonomy, while benefiting from the practice owner's willingness to provide active clinical support, consultation, and collaboration in patient care.
The PMHNP will utilize the Valant Electronic Health Record (EHR) system for all documentation, scheduling, and billing submissions, requiring proficiency and commitment to meticulous, timely record-keeping.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Practice & Patient Care
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, including mental status exams and differential diagnoses, for adults, adolescents, and/or children (based on specialization).
- Develop, implement, and monitor evidence-based treatment plans, including medication management and brief supportive psychotherapy, tailored to the individual client's needs.
- Manage a balanced panel of clients, utilizing both in-person sessions in the Frederick office and virtual (telehealth) sessions in compliance with Maryland state regulations.
- Order, review, and interpret relevant diagnostic tests (e.g., labs, genetic testing) as part of a holistic treatment approach.
- Coordinate care with primary care providers, therapists, school counselors, and specialists, ensuring continuity of care.
Collaboration and Professional Support
- Engage in regular, structured, or as-needed clinical consultation and collaboration with the practice owner regarding complex cases, treatment planning, and clinical best practices.
- Actively utilize available support mechanisms to ensure the highest quality of care and professional development.
- Maintain open communication with practice administrative staff regarding scheduling, client concerns, and office operations.
Administrative & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely clinical documentation within the Valant EHR system, including treatment plans, progress notes, and billing codes (CPT/ICD-10).
- Adhere strictly to all state and federal regulations, including HIPAA, Maryland Board of Nursing rules, and DEA prescribing guidelines.
- Manage independent contractor responsibilities, including maintaining all required licensure, professional liability insurance, and managing self-employment taxes.
Qualifications
Required
- Current, unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Maryland.
- Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
- Active, unrestricted Maryland Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) registration and DEA registration.
- Minimum of 1 year of independent experience as a PMHNP in an outpatient setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience using Valant EHR for scheduling, documentation, and e-prescribing.
