Summary: Works under the general direction of the Library Media Information Specialist. Assists users in accessing library materials such as: books, audio/video materials, databases, and equipment. Compiles records, sorts and shelves books and reading materials; check materials in/out, repairs damaged materials, and answers questions. Assists with simple technology issues in the classrooms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interacts with individuals and groups by supervising, directing, and/or assisting with library services:
- Provide guidance with library organization, procedures, rules, and conduct.
- Monitor student assignments and projects.
- May conduct story time, assist with reading programs, book fairs, or other school initiatives.
- Assist others in locating books and resources, accessing on-line and database information.
- Apprises faculty and staff of new materials.
- Assists teachers with compiling materials for units, researching topics, recommending resources.
- Trains and supervises student aides and/or parent volunteers.
- Provides limited, on-site technical assistance to students and staff:
- Assists with accessing: self-help options, lost documents and student password resets.
- Assists with troubleshooting hardware and software problems for A/V equipment (i.e.: closed circuit or Broadcast television, digital video cameras (capturing, editing, and delivering,) LCD projectors, SmartBoards, wireless tablets, televisions, DVD/VHS places, projectors, audio systems.) Assist with network, and Internet connection problems, install printers, re-imaging, and upgrade equipment and peripherals.
- Provides multi-media assistance (SmartBoards, laptops, projectors, cameras) for assemblies, meetings, and classroom activities. Burns CDs and DVDs.
- Assists students and staff with finding technical solutions and forwards escalated or advanced issues to Help Desk.
- Conducts circulation operations and assists with collection maintenance:
- Assists patrons with book and library material check in and out processes and inter library loan requests.
- Maintains and/or prepares circulation records, files, reports, notices, catalog and indexes.
- Processes fees and refunds.
- Assist in maintaining inventories: catalogs holdings, compiles lost book and replacement information, processes acquisitions and orders.
- Covers, stamps, repairs, and shelves books; coordinates off-site repair of books and materials.
- Provides clerical and technical support for: catalog functions, purchase order process, presentations and displays.
- Updates databases with library holdings, library lessons, student data, reservations, and account information; creates special sub-locations for teacher reserve items, book lists, and resources
- Recycle periodicals and old materials; straighten the library.
- Remains current on career related subject matter:
- Attends training and meetings related to assigned subject matter, as requested.
- Remains current with district software used for instruction.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
General Responsibilities: Works collaboratively with others and remains flexible in performing assigned work.
Education and/or Experience: Associates’ Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with library organization, computerized catalog systems, technology, audio/visual repair as well as customer service is preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities: The ability to work independently and to produce acceptable outcomes in a timely manner is required. Demonstrates technical competencies in building-based hardware and software including but not limited to: multimedia equipment (LCD projectors, SmartBoards, scanners, digital camcorders, and cameras); All Microsoft Office Suite applications and SQL.
