Director of Accounting

We are currently recruiting a Controller role for a rapidly growing organization in Chesapeake, VA. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both leading and rolling up their sleeves and who has a proven track record of process improvement and automation. You’d manage the accounting team of 4-5 people, run the monthly close, oversee multi‑entity consolidation, handle portfolio accounting, partner closely with operations and finance, and lead GAAP audit and lender reporting.

Role Focus: 50/50 split between hands-on and leadership

Essential Duties:

• Close & Financial Reporting: Drive the monthly close process, prepare monthly/quarterly GAAP financial statements, and lead multi-entity consolidations.
• Complex Technical Accounting: Own accounting for debt/equity instruments, internally developed software (ASC 350-40), and loan portfolio accounting (ASC 326).
• Treasury & Credit Compliance: Manage daily cash forecasting, bank administration, borrowing base calculations, and lender compliance reporting.
• System & Process Optimization: Enforce internal controls, SOPs, and cost accountability while streamlining processes through ERP capabilities and modern AI tools.
• Audit & Governance: Serve as the primary lead for external annual audits, lender diligence, and field exams.

Required Qualifications

• BS degree in Accounting or Finance
• 7 years Accounting experience
• 3 years’ Accounting team leadership
• Strong experience managing month-end close
• Strong track record of automation / process improvement (regarding Accounting processes and/or Accounting related technology)
