    Salary
    • Support Salary Scale Grade S07: $22.50 per hour; starting

    Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act this position is non-exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System. Please see linked salary scale for the full range.


    Role

    Under the direction of one or more school administrator(s), this position provides secretarial support for a variety of functions within the scope and nature of the position.

    Essential Functions

    Reporting directly to designated school administrator(s), the Secretary performs, as a minimum, the following duties:
    • Provides information to community stakeholders including business partners, representatives of the press, community members and employees.
    • Navigates FCPS website to provide information on school system resources and procedures.
    • Answers telephone, takes messages, greets visitors, makes appointments, and gives information.
    • Prepares, types, proofreads, and enters information for letters, memos, schedules, reports, presentations, forms, and other materials.
    • Assembles materials for meetings, conferences, and workshops.
    • Effectively uses automated systems and office technology to meet administrative needs.
    • Maintains hard copy and electronic filing systems for data.
    • Maintains records and reports, as assigned.
    • Orders and receives supplies and checks invoices.
    • Assists with maintaining property accountability.
    • Assists with scheduling use of facilities.
    • Processes routine correspondence.
    • Distributes mail and supplies.
    • Maintain procedural manual for front desk assignment
    • Operates various machines and trains others in their operation.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by designated school administrator(s).

    Required Qualifications

    Education, Training, and Experience
    • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
    • Three years of experience in performing responsible clerical and secretarial work in a busy office environment.
    • Experience with de-escalation best practices

    • None

    Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
    • Knowledge and use of culturally responsive practices.
    • Working knowledge of the general organization and functions of the major units of Frederick County Public Schools
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively use word processing, database, spreadsheet, and email software.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
    • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and maintain flexibility.
    • Demonstrated strong human relations skills.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in business math.
    • Ability to handle confidential and highly sensitive information in a professional manner.
    • Ability to build trust and maintain relationships.
    • Management and organizational skills that show an ability to prioritize, work under time constraints, and demonstrate flexibility in an environment of multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
    • Regular and predictable attendance.
    • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.



    Physical Demands and Abilities
    • Must be able to work at desk/computer for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or
    • related office equipment.
    • May be required to grasp, push, reach, or stoop/kneel/crouch.
    • May be required to lift up to ten (10) pounds.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Education, Training, and Experience
    • Minimum 5 years of relevant secretarial experience.

    Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
    • Bilingual skills.
    • Demonstrated proofreading skills.
    • Demonstrated strong human relations skills which have created a positive and inviting environment.
