Position Summary
Position Summary:
The Theater Technician must have general knowledge of the JBK Theater, Studio Theatre, and the technical aspects of each space. The position is a liaison to the users of the facility. Technicians will have knowledge, experience, and skill on all equipment found in the theatre (including video equipment, slide projectors, computerized lighting control board and 24 channel sound mixing board). The position also performs the task of general upkeep of the theatrical equipment, wood shop, costume room, paint room, orchestra pit, box office, equipment closets, and dressing rooms. The Technician is in charge of setting up and restoring each facility after each event, and is responsible for seeing that the user is out of the facility at the appropriate contracted time. Requires the ability to use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. Run events in the theater space during week days, weekends, and evenings.
2. Operate and maintain theater intercom system.
3. Move and arrange stage drapery, scrims, backdrops, masking, flats, band risers, platforms, and other stage furnishings.
4. Operate technical equipment and other special electrical equipment relating to the theatre booth and stage.
5. Advise clients and user groups on staging techniques.
Required Minimum Qualifications
1. High School Diploma
2. Prior employment, volunteer, or internship
3. Ability to work with clients, college faculty, staff, and students
Desired Qualifications
1. Two (2) years of professional experience in technical theatre
2. Experience working with visiting professional artists: music directors, stage directors, choreographers, stage managers, and technical directors
3. Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities
4. Ability to report to several contacts for simultaneous events and overlapping responsibilities
5. Respond quickly to immediate needs and initiate problem solving techniques
6. Experience with theatrical lighting, sound, computer & software, and audio/visual equipment
