Position Summary:
CPR adjunct instructors teach CPR Basic Life Support, Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid and other CPR and First Aid courses as offered following the American Heart Association curriculum. Instructors may teach classes on campus or at clients’ facilities, independently or with a co-instructor, based on the size of the class.
Applicants must be self-motivated, trustworthy, and flexible. Instructors must be able to meet timelines and complete tasks without on-site management presence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. Facilitate video presentations, instructor lectures, skills demonstrations
2. Test students and conduct remediation if needed
3. Complete post-course rosters/paperwork accurately
4. Submit paperwork to department within specific timeline
5. Abide by all American Heart Association instruction and program protocol
6. Participate in CPR BLS instructor training led by FCC staff (if not currently instructor certified)
7. Participate in appropriate professional development and training activities to assure currency in discipline, knowledge and instructional methods.
8. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
1. Must possess current American Heart Association CPR BLS provider certification
2. Excellent public speaking skills; be comfortable in front of a class of adults
3. Must be responsible, on-time and able to teach/organize independently.
4. Must be able to attend scheduled instructor training and professional development sessions
5. Must be willing to purchase own instructor training materials prior to training.
Desired Qualifications:
1. Previous teaching experience (classroom or professional/corporate training)
2. Current American Heart Association BLS Instructor certification.
3. AA degree or above, preferably in healthcare or allied health field
4. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
