Position Description

The Correction Division’s operating philosophy is Strategic Inmate Management (SIM). Civilian employees assigned to Corrections fulfill their role, complete their duties, and perform assigned tasks according to the elements, principles, and behavioral requirements of Inmate Behavior Management and Direct Supervision by collaborating with Corrections custody staff to manage incarcerated individual’s behavior and basic needs. Develop and coordinate social and or rehabilitative programs in correctional facility, monitor efficacy of current and future rehabilitative and therapeutic programming delivered, plan and schedule program activities, monitor attendance and participation/progress of incarcerated individuals in programs; evaluate efficacy of current and future programs and reviews case files and terminations. Provide social and or rehabilitative program counseling for incarcerated individuals, and or family members; coordinate activities with community service providers and volunteers; develop individual treatment plans; intervene in crisis situations; refer incarcerated individuals to community providers; coordinate reentry services. Contact and or meet with community service providers and or governmental agencies to develop relationships in order to promote continuity of care and or to coordinate services; attends seminars and or conferences; monitors and reviews program records. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social or behavioral science, criminal justice or comparable field.; community resources regarding employment, social services policy, program planning, analysis; social program counseling; interviewing. Must hold current certification or credentials in one of the following: ? Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) ? Professional Counselor (PC) by State of Ohio Counselor and Social Work Board ? Master of Social Work (MSW) ? Master of Science Criminal Justice (MSCJ) ? Any other Master’s degree in applicable field.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; handle emergencies and sensitive contacts with incarcerated individuals and or family members; prepare concise, meaningful and accurate reports, records and files.

Remain calm during stressful situations. Engage in effective interpersonal communication and interaction with all types of people. Use sound, independent judgment within established policy, procedure and the principles of Inmate Behavior Management and Direct Supervision. Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of the work. Work cooperatively and effectively within a team and the larger organizational setting. Possess a basic understanding of technology and computer applications and software.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Developed after employment: Knowledge of supervision of incarcerated individuals in controlled environment & related safety practices, Sheriff’s Office rules and regulations. Ability to apply Sheriff’s Office core competencies to solve practical everyday problems, develop good rapport with incarcerated individuals.
