The Franklin County Auditor’s Office is seeking a Staff Counsel to join the Legal team.

The Franklin County Auditor’s Office is dedicated to serving the community by ensuring fairness and accuracy in weight and measures across the county. Our mission is to protect and empower consumers, making sure they receive what they rightfully pay for at gas pumps and retail store scanners. As a trusted steward of county finances, we strive to promote fiscal responsibility and innovative initiatives that benefit all residents of Franklin County.

In addition to these important responsibilities, we assess property values to determine fair property taxes, while also working to provide tax relief for senior and citizens who are disabled. We understand the importance of supporting vulnerable populations and strive to make the process as accessible and accommodating as possible.

What will you do?

Reviews contracts to ensure compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, federal laws, and Franklin County policies and procedures. Conducts legal research and provides legal opinions and implements changing legal obligations and related policy goals.

Ensures all divisions of the Auditor’s Office are meeting the statutory obligations of the Office.

Assists the General Counsel in providing guidance to staff on legal and compliance issues.

Drafts Board resolutions.

Who should apply?

We encourage individuals with a bachelor’s degree in political science, business administration, public administration, or other related discipline; Possession of Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; one (1) to three years (3) of related experience; knowledge of public sector processes and/or Franklin County government preferred.

Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the County's vehicle insurance policy. Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio and be a member in good standing of the Bar of the State of Ohio.
