Franklin Biolabs, Inc. is in search of a Veterinary Technician (VT) who will support our veterinary care team by performing routine and specialized procedures associated with the veterinary care of laboratory animals, which may include a variety of species utilized on research studies. 

  • Triage clinical cases, participate in clinical rounds on active cases under the direction of the veterinarian, and administer and document the appropriate clinical therapies to animals undergoing veterinary-directed treatments. 
  • Maintain excellent medical records, clinical and research databases, and implement required diagnostic and preventative care programs. 
  • Assist with maintaining an inventory of veterinary supplies and equipment including controlled substances. Ensure all animal activities are in compliance with USDA, OLAW, GLP and AAALAC regulations/guidelines. Assist with monthly billing of clinical and experimental procedures.
  • Participate in research studies, review study protocols, perform specialized experimental procedures, and ensure that samples are delivered to the appropriate person(s) or diagnostic laboratory(ies) as it pertains to the study protocol. 
  • Participate in an occupational safety and health program which requires tuberculin testing, protection from measles infection, and potentially required immunizations. 
  • Perform weekend and holiday work as needed, and occasional overtime hours when required. 
  • Interact with various staff members across multiple functions within the animal care and research programs. 
  • Independently perform duties as described and maintain individual responsibilities with minimal direct oversight.

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree in a related field preferred, or a 2-year college equivalent.
  • 1-2 years related experience working with animals in a pre-clinical laboratory or clinical setting. Experience working in a CRO with multi-species strongly preferred. 
  • Strong background in the veterinary field and veterinary technical work.
  • Experience working with non-human primates.
  • Experience administering and monitoring anesthesia in animals.
  • Experience triaging and assessing clinical cases and implementing treatment plans.

Certifications or Licenses

  • CVT/RVT preferred

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and agencies (USDA, OLAW, FDA, AAALAC). 
  • Knowledge of animal care and use and regulatory expectations.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain complex, detailed records, databases, and inventories.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage conflict or competing views.
  • Self-directed individual with the ability to successfully perform in a fast-paced environment, despite competing priorities and under tight deadlines.  
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to interact with team members, clients, vendors and other third parties.
  • An ability to collaborate effectively with individuals across various disciplines to ensure animal welfare is uncompromised and business needs are met.
  • Ability to use digital communication tools (video conferencing, chat platforms etc.) to effectively collaborate with team members in hybrid and remote settings.

On-Site

  • This position requires full-time on-site presence at our Discovery Labs location in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.
  • This position requires occasional evening, overnight, or weekend work.  

Immunizations and Screenings

  • This position will require working with animals (e.g. Non-Human Primates, Rabbits, Rats, Mice).
  • This position will require access to lab animal spaces. 
  • This position requires proof of negative tuberculosis test and a positive measles titer. Measles vaccination may be required if titer levels do not show sufficient protection.
  • This position will require pre-employment and annual auditory and respiratory clearances.

Essential Status

  • Essential for Closure: This position may be required to go on-site during company closures to sustain the life and care of animals/biological materials. Examples of company closures include snow days, special shutdowns, etc.
  • Essential for Research: This position may be required to go on-site to perform their regular work functions related to continued research during periods of adjusted operations. 

Vision

  • Ability to distinguish between different colors (normal color vision).
  • Ability to see clearly at various distances.
  • Adequate near vision for reading documents or lab equipment.
  • Ability to focus and maintain concentration in tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in environments with varying light conditions.
