7th Grade Middle School Assistant Teacher

Job Summary
Francis W. Parker School is currently seeking a 7th Grade Assistant Teacher. This position combines assisting 7th grade faculty, providing supervision for student tutorials and/or special projects and miscellaneous clerical responsibilities. The successful candidate must be interested in and, preferably, experienced in working with Middle School aged students. Interested candidates must be flexible in that they will be assisting different teachers throughout the 7th grade team in their classrooms. Creativity, sense of humor and the ability to communicate with adolescents are important. There are options to coach, lead a community service group and/or help on school-outdoors camping excursions. Willingness to chaperone overnight trips with other teachers is required.
Assistant Teachers for the coming school year (180 workdays) are scheduled to work at least 7.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Specific start and end time may vary, depending on grade level and assignment, beginning at or around 8:00 am and ending at or around 3:30 pm. Recess, lunch, and dismissal duties are as assigned.
Assistant Teachers have the opportunity to learn under the supervision and mentorship of experienced lead teachers; the role is a one year commitment, and Assistants who wish to return for a second or third year are recommended by teachers and appointed by the Head of Intermediate and Middle Schools. In addition, Assistant Teachers participate in various professional development activities scheduled periodically throughout the school year during school hours.
Qualifications
Starting rate: $24/hour
Assistant Teacher employee agreements are written for 180 school days and paid September-June. Francis W. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
- Ability to effectively interact with students, faculty, staff, administration, and parents
- Must have a passion for and enjoy working with Middle School age students
- Have a genuine interest in teaching
- Knowledge of typical Middle School curricula preferred
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills
- Flexible and highly responsible
- Strong cultural competency and a desire and commitment to further developing it at Parker
- Enthusiastic desire and commitment to learn and improve professionally
- Experience working with students with learning differences strongly preferred
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
