Job Description: Manufacturing Engineer (Laser Programming)
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Status: Salaried, Exempt
Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer is the driving force behind how we build. This role is responsible for supporting and executing customer projects by providing engineering design, process documentation, technical support, and problem resolution. This is a hands-on role that requires direct interaction with various manufacturing teams, troubleshooting real-time production issues, and identifying efficiency gains to keep us competitive in a global market.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacturing & Production Support: Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned projects on the shop floor. Support Production and Operations during the execution of customer orders, resolving hurdles in all operations.
- CNC Laser Programming: Utilization of software based CNC programming to develop G-Code to accurately and efficiently produce customer parts.
- Engineering Design: Translate customer requirements into accurate drawings, specifications, technical documentation, and provide necessary tooling for production. Review designs for accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance with project requirements.
- Process Documentation: Develop and maintain revision control on Work Instructions, Laser Programs, BOMs, Routers, and associated technical documentation.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives. Use of data to identify bottlenecks and implement 5S for process improvements.
- Efficiency & Automation: Integrate new Industry 4.0 technologies—including Cobots and automation—into existing workflows to increase throughput and reduce manual labor.
- Quality & Compliance: Coordinate with Quality and Operations to address technical concerns. Ensure all processes align with ISO 9001:2015 and UL standards.
- Project Execution: Support testing, validation, and final acceptance of deliverables. Participate in customer meetings, audits, or technical reviews as required.
Authority and Decision-Making
The Manufacturing Engineer has the authority to make technical decisions related to customer project design and execution. This role is expected to recommend corrective actions, design changes, and process improvements. Final contractual, financial, and staffing decisions remain with management.
Qualifications
- Education / Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field or equivalent in manufacturing experience.
- Experience: 4 years in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment (Sheet metal and fabrication experience is ideal).
- Technical Literacy: Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software and technical drawing comprehension. Experience with ERP systems, CNC Programming, and quoting software (e.g., Paperless Parts) is preferred.
- Lean Manufacturing and Quality Assurance experience is a bonus.
Work Environment
This position operates in both office and manufacturing environments and requires regular interaction with production operations and active customer projects.

Pay: $54,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
