The Automotive Test Driver is responsible for conducting controlled road tests on vehicles that have been modified for accessibility, ensuring they meet the highest standards for safety, performance, and drivability. This role plays a critical part in our quality assurance process, identifying and reporting operational issues prior to vehicle delivery. Test drives typically range from 20 to 50 miles and are conducted on a pre-determined route near the facility. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to effectively communicate mechanical observations to the Quality Control team.

Screenings Required

This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position.
A Safety Sensitive position at FR Conversions is subject to post-offer and random drug/alcohol screenings.
All positions at FR Conversions are subject to at cause and post-incident drug/alcohol screenings.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform structured road tests of modified vehicles including wheelchair-accessible vans, ambulances, and specialty vehicles.
- Adhere to company-designated test routes and driving procedures to ensure consistency across all test drives.
- Evaluate vehicle performance for mechanical integrity, drivability, and safety compliance.
- Document and report any unusual noises, vibrations, alignment issues, braking concerns, or other irregularities.
- Coordinate findings with the Quality Control team and return vehicles for inspection when needed.
- Operate all vehicles in accordance with local traffic laws and internal safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate and timely logs of completed test drives and any defects noted.
- Ensure vehicle cleanliness and readiness prior to customer delivery or shipment.

- A valid and current driver’s license is required; candidates must provide proof of renewal upon expiration.
- A clean driving record demonstrated through a motor vehicle record (MVR) check will be conducted prior to employment and annually thereafter.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Above-basic automotive knowledge; capable of identifying mechanical and performance-related concerns.
- Strong attention to detail with an unwavering focus on safety.
- Dependable and punctual with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) for documenting findings and coordinating with internal teams.
- Previous experience in vehicle testing, automotive quality control, inspection, or a related field.
- Familiarity with vehicle modification processes or adaptive/mobility vehicle systems.
- Must be able to sit, drive, and remain focused for extended periods (up to 50-mile routes).
- Occasional lifting, bending, and climbing in and out of various vehicle types is required.
- Comfortable working in varying weather conditions.
