Senior / Lead / Principal Mechanical Engineer / remote with travel – 80/20 split
Incredible opportunity to join a rapidly scaling company as a senior/lead/principal Mechanical Engineer to own the cooling systems design for next-generation AI/HPC data centres. You will define the Mechanical Standard, lead high-efficiency air and liquid-cooled system design, and ensure integration with electrical, structural, and architectural systems.
Role Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include:
- Owning the Mechanical Basis of Design (BOD) for AI/HPC campuses
- Designing and specifying air-cooled chillers, CDUs, liquid-to-chip cooling, and hydronic loops
- Performing CFD airflow modelling, hydraulic calculations, and equipment de-rating for extreme heat conditions
- Reviewing EPCM mechanical submittals, P&IDs, control sequences, and CFD models
- Conducting field validation: equipment placement, piping/duct routing, clearance, and QC
- Qualifying long-lead mechanical equipment (chillers, pumps, CDUs, buffer tanks)
- Leading Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and handoff to Operations with SOPs
Person Specification
Essential skills will include:
- Bachelor’s in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field
- 5 years in mechanical systems for data centres, industrial, or mission-critical facilities
- Expertise in cooling systems, HVAC, hydronics, air- and liquid-cooled chillers, DX/refrigerant cycles
- Experience with CFD (6Sigma, TileFlow) and hydraulic modelling
- Understanding of BMS control strategies, equipment sequencing, and thermal performance validation
- Ability to review and manage EPCM engineering packages
