Senior / Lead / Principal Electrical Engineer / remote with travel – 80/20 split
Incredible opportunity to join a rapidly scaling company as a senior/lead/principal Electrical Engineer to serve as the technical owner of electrical infrastructure for next-generation AI/HPC data centres. You will author the Electrical Standard, spanning High Voltage (HV) private transmission lines, Medium Voltage (MV) substations, and Low Voltage (LV) distribution, while ensuring system reliability, buildability, and regulatory compliance.
This is a hands-on Owner’s Engineer role, interfacing with EPCM partners, commissioning teams, and tenants to deliver grid-to-rack power with high availability.
Role Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include:
- Developing and maintaining the Electrical Basis of Design (BOD) for AI/HPC campuses
- Engineering MV/LV systems, including private transmission lines
- Integrating Behind-the-Meter (BTM) generation assets (turbines, BESS, hybrid storage)
- Defining protection schemes, relay coordination, and substation topology
- Reviewing and approving EPCM electrical submittals, arc flash studies, and short-circuit analyses
- Conducting field validation: conduit routing, cable trays, grounding, and separation of HV/LV systems
- Qualify long-lead equipment (GSU transformers, MV switchgear, UPS, generators)
- Commercial Pragmatist: Designs for cost-efficiency without compromising reliability
Person Specification
Essential skills will include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5 years in MV/LV electrical systems for data centres, utility-scale power, or heavy industrial facilities
- Deep knowledge of substation design, transmission physics, and PDUs
- Experience as Owner’s Engineer / Design Manager, reviewing EPCM packages
- Familiarity with power system studies (SKM, ETAP) including short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash
- Experience ‘designing around supply chain’ and decision-making based on availability
