Position Summary: Responsible for ensuring that Quality Systems—including Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certifications—meet or exceed both internal standards and external customer expectations across all facilities. This role requires expertise in third-party audit requirements, including HACCP, BRC, and USDA standards, and the ability to effectively apply and communicate these requirements organization-wide.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Systems Leadership
- Provide leadership and guidance to facility personnel on GFSI standards, including interpretation and implementation to achieve and maintain certification.
- Administer, monitor, audit, and continuously improve quality systems across all production facilities.
- Develop and maintain corporate policies, procedures, and internal Quality Manuals aligned with BRC, USDA, and Department of Agriculture requirements.
- Ensure all documentation is properly maintained and clearly communicates expectations for successful implementation of Quality Systems and GFSI standards.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Evaluate HACCP, SSOP, and prerequisite programs to ensure compliance with current regulations and internal standards.
- Serve as HACCP/Food Safety Team Leader.
- Oversee and participate in recall and crisis management teams.
- Ensure compliance with FPL specifications and all customer-mandated requirements.
- Maintain records related to product safety, legality, and quality systems.
Audits & Corrective Actions
- Conduct internal audits across all plant areas and issue detailed reports with corrective actions.
- Follow up with managers and supervisors to ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
- Prepare for and lead third-party audits.
- Perform supplier audits for packaging, raw materials, and other vendors.
Training & Documentation
- Oversee food safety training programs across all facilities, ensuring timely and effective training.
- Monitor and maintain training records.
- Manage and maintain document control programs.
- Keep certifications and documentation current, including:
- Halal
- Organic
- Export verification
- Supplier letters of guarantee
- Supplier lot code verification
- Food defense compliance letters
Operations & Support
- Maintain QA calendars and schedules to ensure timely completion of tasks and training.
- Assist with data collection projects and traceability exercises.
- Help manage facility vendors, including chemicals, sanitation, and pest control services.
- Maintain, administer, and improve food safety and quality systems for key customers.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Food Science, or Meat Science (required)
- Master’s Degree (preferred)
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in a food processing environment
- Experience in beef slaughter or processing (preferred)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of USDA and OSHA regulations
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentations
- Strong customer relationship management skills
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Travel Requirements: Up to 35% travel required
