What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Farmers Market Vendor Staff position at Foxtown Farm?
Foxtown is hiring part-time help to run our farmers market booths primarily in Lafayette and Louisville, with the occasional markets in Denver.
Our market season typically runs early May through October (exact dates vary slightly by market). Saturdays and Sundays.
About Foxtown
We specialize in ginger and turmeric inspired products, with a focus on ginger & turmeric infused honeys and fire cider tonic.
We’re passionate about what we make, and our customers love our products. It’s our 7th year in operation and we have quite a following.
The Role
You’ll primarily be running the booth independently, so we’re looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable talking with strangers
- Confident explaining products and answering questions
- Reliable and self-motivated
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather (markets are rain or shine)
Farmers markets are fast-paced, fun, and community-oriented — but they can also be hot, cold, or rainy. Being adaptable and positive is key.
Logistics
Loading and unloading of market supplies and inventory happens in Denver. Depending on where you live, you can load up Saturday morning before market and unload Sunday after market, or you can load up on Friday and unload as late as Monday.
You must use your own vehicle to transport market supplies.
A hatchback-sized vehicle is sufficient (markets have been done in Priuses and Honda Fits without issue). Non-hatchback cars may work too.
Your hours will depend on the specific market’s hours but 6:30am-2:30pm would likely be the longest days.
Optional Kitchen Day
There is also the option to work one weekday per week in the kitchen in Aurora making the products you’ll be selling at the markets. I’m flexible on which weekday and the exact timing, but I typically work 9am–4:30pm. This day is completely optional and not required in order to work the farmers markets.
Schedule Expectations
You must be available most weekends during the season, but up to three weekends off is fine. At least one month’s notice for time off (two months preferred) so coverage can be arranged. And if you know the weekends you want off now, that's even better.
Pay
$16/hour 7% of sales
Last season this averaged approximately $28/hour over the course of the market season.
If you enjoy small food businesses, community markets, and talking with people about thoughtfully made products, this could be a great fit.
I look forward to hearing from you!
