Production Gardener
Position Type: Part-Time
Schedule: Up to 24 hours per week
Location: On-site at Philadelphia School District school locations
Overview:
Fox Chase Farm is hiring a reliable, detail-oriented Production Gardener to help us maintain and expand our seasonal growing operations. This role focuses on the day-to-day tasks involved in producing high-quality vegetables, herbs, and flowers for local markets, events, and educational programs.
We're seeking a hands-on grower who can work independently and collaboratively to ensure planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting are completed efficiently. The ideal candidate has experience working outdoors, a love for plants and food systems, and a strong work ethic.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with all aspects of crop production including seeding, transplanting, weeding, irrigation, pest management, and harvesting
- Support post-harvest handling tasks such as washing, packing, labeling, and organizing produce
- Maintain cleanliness, order, and safety in greenhouse, wash/pack area, and field beds
- Monitor crop health and report observations to the Farm Manager or Lead Grower
- Follow farm SOPs (standard operating procedures) for organic growing practices and food safety
- Operate basic hand tools and equipment with care and responsibility
- Occasionally assist with educational or community programs related to the farm's growing operation
Requirements:
- 1 year of gardening, farming, landscaping, or other hands-on plant work preferred
- Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions and lifting 30–50 lbs
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn
- Ability to follow directions and complete repetitive tasks with consistency
- Interest in sustainable agriculture, food systems, or farm-to-table practices
- Availability for early mornings or weekend shifts a plus

Pay Structure:
- $88.40 per 6-hour day
- $44.21 per 3-hour day
Please note compensation is nonnegotiable and set per the School District of Philadelphia on a per diem basis.
