Position Title: Docent (Adult or Student Volunteer Programs)

Location: Fox Chase Farm, Rockledge, PA (In-person required)

Schedule: Part-Time

Compensation: Per Diem

  • $88.40 per 6-hour day
  • $44.21 per 3-hour day

Position Overview

Fox Chase Farm is seeking two part-time Docents to support and strengthen our growing volunteer program.

One Docent will primarily support adult volunteers, while the other will focus on student volunteers. Both positions share the same core responsibilities and will work closely together as part of the farm team.

Docents serve as mentors, guides, and ambassadors for Fox Chase Farm by helping volunteers become active participants in the daily life of the farm. This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role that combines volunteer coordination with direct participation in farm operations, educational programming, and community engagement.

Successful candidates enjoy working with people, leading by example, solving problems, and contributing wherever needed to help the farm and its volunteers succeed.

Key Responsibilities May Include

  • Recruiting, welcoming, and supporting new volunteers
  • Coordinating volunteer schedules, assignments, and attendance
  • Assisting with volunteer onboarding, orientation, and required clearances in accordance with School District policies
  • Providing day-to-day guidance and mentorship while volunteers participate in farm activities
  • Working alongside volunteers during farm projects, educational programs, special events, and seasonal initiatives
  • Collaborating with farm leadership to match volunteer skills and interests with farm needs
  • Maintaining volunteer records and assisting with program evaluation and continuous improvement
  • Supporting educational programming, public events, and community outreach activities
  • Helping maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for volunteers and visitors
  • Assisting with general farm operations and stepping into other responsibilities as needed to support the overall mission of Fox Chase Farm

Ideal Candidate

  • Passionate about agriculture, education, community engagement, and service
  • Enjoys mentoring, teaching, and working alongside people of all ages
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Organized, dependable, and adaptable
  • Comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with hands-on outdoor work
  • Works well independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment
  • Experience working with volunteers, youth programs, education, community organizations, or customer service is preferred
  • Experience in agriculture, horticulture, environmental education, parks, or outdoor recreation is a plus

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform light to moderate physical work
  • Must be able to obtain required background clearances (Child Abuse, PA Criminal, and FBI)
  • Availability for occasional evenings and weekends to support community events and volunteer activities
