About the Role The Golf Course Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in the daily maintenance, operation, and management of the golf course at the Naples Beach Club, a Four Seasons Resort. This role helps ensure exceptional playing conditions that align with a premium guest experience by assisting with agronomic practices, staff supervision, and maintenance planning. The Assistant Superintendent actively participates in course upkeep while leading teams, promoting safety, and ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. In the Superintendent’s absence, this role helps oversee operations, maintain effective communication across departments, and ensure the course remains in outstanding condition while supporting the long-term health and sustainability of the property. What You Will Do PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: With the supervision of the Superintendent, the Golf Course Assistant Superintendent directs and participates in the daily maintenance of the golf course. Supervise and work with employees using effective communication as a positive role model. Ensure that the golf course operation adheres to the mandates of the local, state & federal law. Places employee safety and morale as the top priority. Perform duties of a Greensman I. SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: Properly communicates with the Superintendent, and when supervising in absence, communicates with the Range House and Director of Golf Course Maintenance concerning rain delays, course closings, etc. Assist in planning, scheduling, and supervising the maintenance of the putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and driving range. Instructs equipment operators in the safe, efficient operation and care of mowing and other equipment. Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of irrigation and IPM Ensures that all chemicals are stored, applied and disposed of legally and precisely as the label dictates. Uses IPM to local, state and federal law. Performs related tasks as required. Performance Standards: Consistent, effective communication. A manicured, healthy, playable golf course. A safe, clean work environment. Frequent communication with the Superintendent. A motivated and productive staff. Promote a professional image for the department. Machines/Equipment/Tools Used: Utility type vehicle and utility trailer. Various equipment used when testing, training, or filling in on an emergency basis. Small tools, 2-cycle and electric equipment Safety Equipment: All safety equipment described in other job descriptions and dependent on specific tasks and equipment used. What You Bring Formal education: Preferred degree in agronomy/horticulture/plant/soil sciences desired, or equivalent tenured knowledge. Knowledge: Continuing education is necessary to stay current with technology. This includes attending local CEU meetings, various seminars and educational sessions. Also included is a membership and participation in the local & national Golf Course Superintendent's chapter. Skills: Ability to understand and follow instructions and policies. Ability to train, motivate and effectively direct the work of employees in a safe, efficient manner. Ability to perform all golf course related jobs to fill in on an emergency basis. Knowledge of the game of golf. Experience: All phases of golf course management and turf culture including construction, establishment and maintenance practices employed on golf course putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers; planting and culture of turf grass planting, cultivation and pruning of ornamental plants, shrubs and trees; in proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; pest control methods and materials; drainage methods; watering practices and irrigation systems including wells, pumps and use of automatic controls. Experience with construction and maintenance of maintenance facility, shelters, fences, bridges, golf cart paths, service roads, parking lots and lakes. Scheduling and supervising work to achieve maximum utilization of employees and equipment.
