Job Summary
As a Field Chimney Technician (Hearth Technician), it is your mission to promote chimney safety and performance for customers through professional service and modern, expanding technology.
This is a growth based position! We are prepared to train and assist with the education and certifications our industry requires. You will start as a laborer and will test into promotions of titles and benefits. Being driven for personal education is required as remaining a laborer is not viable for our company. This is a career position and our intention is to invest for the long-term.
Payrate:
- (Starting) Laborer @$20/hr
- Support @22/hr
- Point @25/hr
- (Fully Trained) Hearth Technician @30/hr
- Commission is coming soon, available to Hearth Technicians only
This position is a career position with in-house training and other training opportunities. Our training is sectioned by categories with a raise attached to each category. The raise is applied upon (signed) completion of the category. The maximum timeline from Laborer to Hearth Technician is 2 years. There is no minimum timeline as long as quality of work, high morals, and teamwork remain dependable.
Duties
- Primary responsibility is to inspect, write inspections for, service, troubleshoot, and repair fireplaces and chimneys according to Fire Safety Code NFPA 211, IRC, and CSIA standards.
- Secondary responsibility is to educate the customer effectively for their safety, this includes personal continued education.
- Tertiary responsibility is to advise the customer for other services and products offered by Four Seasons Chimney Sweeps that best suits their safety, needs, and preferences.
- Maintain clean equipment, supplies, company vehicle, and work area.
- Use company issued phone to track, estimate, and invoice all work completed.
- Masonry repair, maintenance, and protection.
- Represent Four Seasons Chimney Sweeps in a professional and kind manner.
- Assist office staff as asked.
- Other tasks as required.
Typical Day
Start by arriving to the office, loading the truck for that day's work. Each day is pre-scheduled with servicing, cleaning, inspections, and/or on-site work like fireplace repair, masonry, or installing inserts. After a morning update, all Techs disperse for the day, traveling to and accomplishing the day's tasks. There are a maximum of 4 appointment slots per day, 3 if inspection report writing is necessary. Inspection writing is a very important part of this position and requires good organizational skills, formatting, correct grammar, and diligence to complete a report to the fullest extent necessary. After all jobs are complete, the Techs return to the office, drop off company vehicles, do evening checklists, and update office staff as needed. If completed early, the Tech could retire the day early or assist with office/warehouse tasks to ensure a minimum of 40 hours a week. It is rare to work past 5pm or on weekends.

*This position spends 75% of its time in customer homes and driving across northwest Indiana.*
