Our Horticulturist is responsible for caring for the expansive grounds, ensuring the health, color, and design of our landscapes reflect the welcoming atmosphere of Foulkeways at Gwynedd. This position involves hands-on work using a variety of motorized, electrical, and manual gardening tools to plant, prune, fertilize, and maintain flowers, shrubs, trees, and other plantings. The ideal candidate brings a passion for horticulture, attention to detail, and pride in creating and preserving inviting outdoor spaces for residents, visitors, and staff to enjoy year-round.

Job Title: Horticulturist

Hours: 7:30AM- 4:00PM Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.

Pay: Starting at $26.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

Department: Facilities Maintenance

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Assist with landscape maintenance, restoration, and design projects.
• Install and cultivate ornamental plants; transplant and prune shrubs and small trees.
• Monitor plant health, apply fertilizers, weed and mulch beds, and identify/treat pests or diseases.
• Maintain plant records and present updates at monthly Grounds Committee meetings. Implement Phase I of the Arboretum program and support the care of indoor plants across Community facilities.
• Operate and maintain power tools and equipment, including chainsaws, weed wackers, blowers, pressure washers, woodchippers, backhoes, and mowers.
• Safely use personal protective equipment and drive electric carts or other vehicles as needed.

Additional Duties/Responsibilities

• Assist with resident furniture moves, snow removal, and salting of walkways and roads.
• Collaborate with Maintenance and other departments while maintaining respect, confidentiality, and sensitivity to residents’ needs.
• Occasionally trash removal from residents’ homes.
• Follow Foulkeways’ code of conduct, HIPAA policies, and Corporate Compliance guidelines, reporting any violations as required.

Education/Experience

• Bachelor's degree in horticulture or a related field (or associate degree and equivalent experience).
• Experience in landscaping with various native plants (3-5 years preferred).
• Comfortable working outside in various weather conditions.
• Attention to detail.
