Job Summary: A painter performs painting, finishing, and maintaining work over a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces; prepares the surfaces for undercoats and finishing coats using a wide range of application techniques, methods, and materials; and mix and match paints. They may also perform painting specifics like sandblasting.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate preferred, but not required
Licensure/Certification: N/A
Zero Tolerance: Must be able to pass a background and drug test.
Experience: Two years’ experience in general interior/exterior wall prep and finished painting preferred; must know how to operate the necessary and basic painting tools and equipment; must know how to mix and match paint and varnish. Must know residential, commercial, and industrial painting practices and processes. Person must have knowledge of the application code requirements and the methods and practices generally followed in the maintenance of tools and equipment. He/She must also know the occupational hazards and the appropriate precautionary measures that should be taken.

- Provide assistance and work directly with staff, residents, family of residents, visitors, government agencies and the general public
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs painting, finishing, and maintaining work over a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces
- Prepares the surfaces for undercoats and finishing coats using a wide range of application techniques, methods, and materials (prepare, prime, seal, sand, patch surface/drywall, paint furniture, buildings, and fixtures using painting materials such as varnish, shellac, lacquer enamel, epoxy, latex, heat resistant and water-proofing finishes; also tapes, repairs, flushes and applies texturing and acoustic layers on surfaces)
- Mix and match paints as the need arises
- Select and maintain proper storage of painting materials.
- Annotates and updates work logs for specific site requirements as requested
- Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services to them. Interact with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment
- Fully understand all aspects of residents' rights, including the right to be free of restraints and free of abuse. Responsible for promptly reporting to the charge nurse or administrative staff incidents or evidence of resident abuse or violation of residents' rights
- Assist in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment; report environmental deficiencies to maintenance such as lighting or equipment problems
- Respond to inquiries relating to his/her particular area or to requests from residents, visitors, other personnel, etc. within given time frames and within established policy
- Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances
- Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned
- May need to shovel snow on sidewalks and parking lot during inclement weather
- Clean vehicles as needed
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Self-paced requires the ability to work quickly and often-times in a demanding, fast-paced work area
- Requires frequent to continuous physical effort; standing, grasping, balancing, carrying, bending, lifting, stretching, stooping, pulling and pushing
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending during eight (8) hour shift
- Frequent reaching above the head
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Work area is generally well lit and ventilated
- Work location is both independent and health care areas of Woodlands Retirement Community including individual apartments, cottages, offices, hallways, and other surrounding areas.
- May be required to work additional hours, weekends or holidays as dictated by the workload and staffing
